Lighting’s LEDs have a longer life than sodium lights, and can last between 12 to 15 years. Over the same period, the Sodium fittings that were previously fitted to the bridge had to be changed three to four times. The white led high bay light produced by the installed LEDs means that colours are rendered more accurately. This provides improved visibility and enhances the effectiveness of security cameras.
However, aside from switching off for Earth Hour just for the night, we can take some measures for the long run. It is estimated lighting accounts for roughly 19 per cent of energy used globally, and some industry players say consumers and companies can bring that number down substantially by using energy efficient lighting solutions such as LEDs.
In a word, Earth Hour is not just anniversary that make people remind of the crisis of climate change, we should put this awareness into practice in every moment such as phasing out the ineffective lightings and adopt eco-friendly LED lights. The more green actions we take, the less energy we consume, so that we can create a more sustainable planet.
Lighting, together with its Australian partner UGL Limited, has secured a A$7 million project through a tender to replace about 6,450 street and park lights in the City of Sydney over the next three years. In an Australian first, the City of Sydney will roll-out new energy-efficient led linear high bay light and park lighting, halving electricity use and carbon pollution compared to conventional lights. UGL Limited, headquartered in Australia, is a global leader in outsourced engineering, asset management and property services.
