SmartWatt Energy’s Chicago office staff performed a construction-grade energy audit of the facility, and then engineered an action plan to replace 328 metal halide lighting fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting. SmartWatt Energy chose LED fixtures for the project because of their superior performance in cold storage facilities.

The new energy efficient lighting will reduce lighting-related energy consumption by 71%, and has led to the equivalent reduction of 577,889 pounds of Carbon Dioxide from the environment. According to EPA estimates, this project will have the same effect on the environment as planting 85 acres of trees or removing 55 vehicles from the road each year.

According to the company, its revenue rose to ￡3.82m from ￡2.54m for the same period in 2011. Gross profit also increased by 62 per cent to ￡1.51m, when compared to the revenue of the first half of last year, which saw a total of ￡0.93m being made.
