The City of Chicago will monitor the LED streetlights

According to Sunny Tsai , the company president ,the firm with 90% of its sales generated in Japan, has shipped over 100,000 led high bay light to the country in July alone. What's more, it looks to achieve single-month shipment of over 500,000 units during the Christmas sales season. The City of Chicago has installed new Borealis LED streetlights as part of a test pilot program. The City of Chicago will monitor the LED streetlights, weighed against their current lighting solution for streets and alleyways. The goal is for a safer, cleaner and brighter light that will improve nighttime safety and the overall appearance of the city.

Borealis LED streetlights have been installed and will be monitored for three months on the block of 4800 W. Parker Avenue in Chicago, IL. The city will be testing the LED streetlights for high color rendition to assure adequate vision, and greater control of light dispersion and energy savings. Currently, most of the city’s streets are illuminated with High Pressure Sodium (HPS) streetlights. HPS lights are used primarily because of their long rated life relative to other conventional options, but HPS street lighting has a very low color rendition, hindering visibility at night.

“We continue our efforts in assisting communities and cities everywhere with innovative ways to reduce their lighting concerns and their carbon footprint on the world,” said Carl Scianna, President and CEO of PolyBrite International. Mr. Scianna also noted that, “Borealis led high bay have a very high color rendition and consume a remarkable average of 60% less energy than the HPS streetlights. We appreciate the city’s study and their commitment to a clean, bright and safe lighting solution for their city streets.”

the LED market segment from growing more quickly in 2010

On the one hand, this will not only help to protect the sensitive ecosystem of the mangrove forests from leaking kerosene and reduce CO2 emissions, but will also provide the fishermen with innovative technology allowing them to continue their night fishing and thus safeguard their main source of income on the other,” says Michael Wohs, European Sales Manager at led high bay light. Catches are not expected to suffer, as the light of the amber-coloured OSRAM LEDs of type Golden Dragon is very similar to that of the kerosene lamps.

The project marks another step towards introducing energy-efficient lighting in Sri Lanka and will make a major contribution to protecting the local environment. OSRAM and the Global Nature Fund already supplied fishermen on Lake Victoria in East Africa with energy-saving products back in 2008. OSRAM provides long-term support to countries in economically underdeveloped regions, helping them make more effective use of energy-efficient lighting.

The trend toward increased LED backlight usage is one of the most intently watched areas as an acute supply chain shortage keeps the LED market segment from growing more quickly in 2010.LCD TV unit shipments in Japan are expected to rise 36 percent in 2010, 3x faster than other developed markets such as North America and Western Europe. And LED Linear high bay light TV growth emphasis will shift to emerging markets like Asia Pacific, which includes India and Latin America over the next four years. As a result, companies throughout the supply chain are gearing up for a more aggressive rollout of LED models, but are constrained by component supply in 2010.

we are very familiar with the quality of performance

Shown at the Cree booth, #149 at Lightfair 2010 in Las Vegas, the LR24HE is 30 percent more efficient than the best 2-foot-by-2-foot fluorescent troffers and 15 percent more efficient than the led high bay light fluorescent troffers. The LR24HE uses Cree TrueWhite? Technology to deliver 3200 lumens at 3500 K with a 90 CRI. It is designed to last at least 50,000 hours.

“By using the LR24HE, which is the most efficient product for general illumination, lighting designers and architects now have the freedom to reintroduce accent and decorative lighting and still meet energy codes or achieve LEED points,” said Gary Trott, Cree vice president market development, LED Lighting. “Cree continues to leverage TrueWhite Technology to deliver breakthrough new performance levels.

announces it is extending the warranty on its entire family of fixture products to five years. Lengthening the warranty lets customers know that Cree stands behind the long-term performance and reliability of our fixtures.Ty Mitchell, Cree vice president and general manager, LED Lighting said that they have almost 20,000 hours of real-world data on products from their early installations nearly three years ago, and the performance is rock solid.

Professor Peter Parbrook, who has been appointed to lead the GaN growth activity at the Tyndall National Institute using strategic funding from Science Foundation Ireland, comments: “From our existing AIXTRON reactors we are very familiar with the quality of performance and engineering available with their tools. There are many reasons why we opted for a LED high bay lighting reactor for our GaN programme: for instance the flexible reactor configuration which includes gap adjustment. Plus we can work with a range of different substrate sizes to suit our various research projects. Inherently, the tool also has high growth uniformity and we are looking forward to using the ARGUS pyrometric system to give us precision in-situ monitoring and process control.” The growth tool will complement Tyndall’s existing expertise in the theory of GaN photonic materials and fabrication of GaN based devices.

the Farnsworth to allocate more funds for programs and exhibitions

A critical letter about the use of chemical pesticides on its lawns in 2008 led to a series of steps and decisions at Farnsworth Art Museum that culminated with a resolution to become a leader in environmentally sustainable practices. Converting the entire museum from halogen to led high bay light bulbs was a major part of that decision.

The effort will make the Rockland, Maine, institution one of the first—if not the first—art museums in the nation to use LED lighting for all of its galleries. The lights will dramatically reduce the museum’s energy consumption, allowing the Farnsworth to allocate more funds for programs and exhibitions.

For the LED project, the museum has partnered with Efficiency Maine and California-based LEDtronics. The relamping will not only help protect displayed artwork by reducing the potentially harmful effects of standard lighting on works of art, but it will also provide budget relief while promoting a healthier environment by reducing energy use.

The Farnsworth currently has over 480 bulbs in its galleries with an average of 75 watts per bulb. The museum hopes to replace all of its 75-watt halogen bulbs with 15-watt LED and 14-watt CFL bulbs. The resulting savings on electricity is estimated to be $15,800 annually. Additionally, with the reduction of unwanted heat that the LED high bay lighting and CFL bulbs will provide, the project is expected to produce a savings of 127,950 unwanted BTUs per hour, and a savings of 10.6 tons per hour of cooling.

the LEDs never operate outside their safe operating area

It is an honor to be recognized by EDN as having the most innovative dimmable LED driver IC” said Ron Edgerton, President and CEO of iWatt.

The iW3610 addresses the most pressing requirements of the emerging solid state LED lighting market; namely, long life, high efficiency to reduce heat loss and smaller physical size with a low bill-of-material cost. The iW3610 is the industry’s first primary side regulated digital PWM controller for 3W up to 25W dimmable LED luminaires that eliminates the opto-coupler required for isolation. The device achieves 5% led high bay light current regulation over line, load and temperature variations for maintaining constant brightness and flicker free operation. Over 80% efficiency is achieved thanks to valley mode switching and proprietary adaptive digital control algorithm that adjusts the switching frequency relative to line voltage.

Maximum switching frequency of 200 kHz allows the design of small size transformer and use of smaller passive components to fit the LED driver electronics in space constrained Edison base sockets. Intelligent algorithm ensures that the iW3610 automatically detects the presence or absence of a wall dimmer be it a leading edge or a trailing edge dimmer and allows 2% to 100% flicker free dimming range. The device allows automatic reduction of LED current at high temperature to ensure that the LEDs never operate outside their safe operating area.

A 15W dimmable LED linear high bay light can be designed with PCB footprint under 30mm x 75mm and only forty seven components for true dimmable retro-fit lamp replacement. The company has successfully enabled market leading luminaire manufacturers to design, develop and release to production dimmable GU10, A-type bulbs and PAR lamps using iW3610.

it will be possible to use separate LED colors with high accuracy

This will enable us to stably produce and offer a white LED that has the least variation in chromaticity while keeping the production cost low by discontinuing the “sorting” process before shipment. We believe that at the destination sites it will be possible to use separate LED colors with high accuracy and that will help to produce quality lighting equipment. Citizen Electronics Co., Ltd will start color control using “3-Step MacAdam ellipses” at the mass production level, taking the initiative in the lighting industry.

Nowadays the use of white LEDs in general lighting is rapidly progressing. There is always a possibility that a great deal of interest will be focused on the LED’s energy-saving performance based on its high luminous efficacy. However, we consider that it is very important to offer quality products stably with no variation in color as well as improving the luminous efficacy.YAHAM Optoelectrionics Co., Ltd will continue to utilize the “CITIZEN” tradition of “Precision Engineering Technology”, and advance the development of high-quality LED products as light sources for general lighting.

Thanks to reliable LED technology

TMG has been manufactured at SAFC Hitech's Bromborough facility for a number of years, primarily for supply to the global semiconductor industry. However, as TMG also fulfills the technical criteria for devices designed for the LED, laser, communication and other markets, the boom in demand for LEDs has led to the conclusion that expanding the plant - with its expertise and specific manufacturing knowledge for this process - was the ideal business solution to meet customer demand. This investment is expected to accelerate the delivery of TMG to a growing market position and reinforce our position as a leading global manufacturer and distributor for the growing LED market worldwide, as well as create jobs in the area, which is positive news given the current economic climate."

The designated QOD kit includes three downlights with a slim junction box, which also contains the main switch. The only requirement to operate it is a socket for the 12V DC mains connection power supply, which the kit also includes. OSRAM also provides a QOD add-on accessory with another lamp in 70x70mm format. A maximum of five QODs can be connected to a distributor using a heavy-duty plug.

QOD is suitable for lighting cabinets, shelves or wardrobes. But QODs can also be used as downlights in other narrow areas, where there is insufficient space for conventional lamps. Thanks to reliable LED technology, replacing lamps is no longer necessary. From now on, OSRAM offers users a flexible, long-lasting lighting solution, which is compelling due to its outstanding functionality, contemporary design and performance – the warm white light of the 3.5W lamps is low-glare, emitted at a 45° angle and achieves around 170lm.

while providing a quality of light

With focus on maximum efficiency and the need for independent growth of multiple incompatible materials in a single system architecture, Veeco is seeing an increase in the ramp of orders of its enabling cluster tool systems. The GEN10 for R&D is the most recent introduction to the robust Veeco cluster tool product line, built upon nine years of cumulative knowledge within various production environments. Orders over the last year position the GEN10 into all major applications for MBE, including those related to III-Vs, oxides and nitrides.

Most direct-view LED-based parking garage luminaires produce extreme glare and create a claustrophobic ‘cave-like’ effect, which can limit visual awareness and make people feel uncomfortable and unsafe. To address these concerns, Philips Wide-Lite’s engineers set out to create a solution to provide uniform lighting not only on the ground but on vertical surfaces as well. By incorporating LUXEON Rebel LEDs from Philips Lumileds to achieve the light output and reliability required, and developing a proprietary Non-Direct View (NDV) optical system, the team was able to engineer VizorLED to operate in a wide variety of ambient environments, reduce energy consumption and operating expenses, while providing a quality of light that delivers a far more visually attractive and inviting environment.

Although designed for the automotive industry, the benefits of robust quality management will be realized by customers in the lighting and consumer electronics industries as well. Particularly in the solid-state lighting environment where LED components are often "fit-for-life" knowing that a supplier is committed and has sound practices with respect to quality is essential.

this light applicable to wet area

Measuring 26 inches tall, 22 inches wide and 11 inches deep, the large fixture produces 130,000 lumens of high pressure sodium light, which is effective at penetrating fog, dust and other airborne obstructions. A special hard coating and simple trunnion mount makes this light applicable to wet area and dry areas alike. 70 foot of STOOW cord connects the light and the multi-tap ballast, enabling operators to position the NEMA enclosure for convenience security. By moving the weighty ballast to a separate NEMA enclosure, operators can safely mount the HPS light fixture in areas of vibration, wind, etc. without the concerns associated with a having a 50 pound ballast in the fixture.

“This is a powerful, lightweight alternative to typical high pressure sodium lights,” said Rob Bresnahan with Larson Electronics’ magnalight.com. “The fixture is rated for wet area and saltwater use, and high pressure sodium is ideal for navigating in high fog conditions. With the ballast removed and secure externally, it easier to mount, as vibration, wind, etc aren’t going to be as much of a factor when you are dealing with a lighter weight fixture. Basically, you are looking at a two foot square fixture delivering 130,000 lumens of light. High pressure sodium lights are ideal for cutting through fog, moist air, dust, smoke and other types of airborne particles that will often cause a lot of reflectance from other light sources, including metal halide. The multi-tap ballast can be configured for voltages ranging from 120 volts to 277 volts.

a supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, announced an innovative ultra-thin, high brightness, light guide film (LGF) technology for backlighting mobile applications such as cell phones, handheld games and led high bay light. According to the company, the new light guide technology will help designers reduce the number of LEDs needed to illuminate backlit keypad applications without compromising brightness and light uniformity.

He expects that apart from interior LED light

VisEra Vice President of R & D and Quality Assurance Group, illustrates that the next generation of lighting will face more challenges. First of all is the capability of technical manufacturing process, including rapid production capability and reduction in costs. At the same time, the thermal management should be strengthened, while designs need to meet with different requirements.

Marcus Wong, OSRAM Senior Marketing Manager of Visible LED, Asia Pacific, presents "Automotive LED Lighting Application: Opportunities & Challenges.” He notes that the field of automotive LED is affected by electric vehicles, energy-saving and low CO2 emissions, creating robust growth momentum. He expects that apart from interior LED light, the daytime-running lights and the front headlights of an automobile are the next growth opportunities, particularly when countries in the European Union already have relevant laws and regulations in using daytime-running lights.

Dr. Christian Geng, Vice President Greater China General Manager AIXTRON Taiwan, discusses "Satisfying the LED industry’s requirements on MOCVD equipment." He believes the increasing importance of producing LED chips with high-uniformity, due to increasing demand of LED backlight sources and led high bay light for panels. He notes that the use of 4-inch and 6-inch wafer MOCVD machines will continue to grow. He took the output efficiency of the 4-inch and 6-inch machines as an example, each able to produce 2.7 times and 4.5 times the output of LED chips from a 2-inch machine. The company, together with Semileds, also has successfully created a 6-inch sapphire wafer.

when the LED lighting flourishes in the future

In March 2007, Konica Minolta signed a strategic alliance agreement with General Electric Company of the United States to accelerate the development, aiming to commercialize the led high bay light within the fiscal year 2010. Prior to the alliance, in June 2006, Konica Minolta succeeded in developing a white OLED device with a world record power efficiency of 64 lumens per watt at 1000 candela per square meter, while having practical light emission level of approximately 10,000 hours - a brightness suitable for lighting applications.

Such technologies as material, coating, multi-layer design, and optical design technologies, nurtured through the development of photographic film and optical lens, have been fully adopted in the development of the LED lighting. For the pilot line, Konica Minolta designed and developed its own roll-to-roll coating method to manufacture flexible plastic-base LED lighting. This method will serve as the key to accomplishing cost advantage when the LED lighting flourishes in the future.

ColorReach TR Powercore and iW Reach TR Powercore are the road-ready versions of ColorReach Powercore, the flagship high-performance floodlight from Philips Color Kinetics. These rental-friendly floodlights generate enough light output to replace multiple flood and wash fixtures for large-scale and long-throw applications.

with other LED business under the group

There are many commercial and residential situations where small MR16 bulbs are the best option to display artwork or to set the right ambiance. However, the vast majority of MR16 bulbs are very hot halogen bulbs or fragile incandescent bulbs that need to be replaced frequently. Compact fluorescents do not factor into this small bulb market because of their inherent large size. The tiny size of an LED lends itself to small bulb applications like MR16 bulbs, allowing for compact, bright bulbs that consume very little electricity, generate very little heat and last thousands of hours longer than halogen or incandescent bulbs.

Hon Hai is also likely to combine its LED lighting maker Foxsemicon Integrated Technology Inc. with other LED business under the group. Industry executives suggested Hon Hai should team up with Epistar, Taiwan`s No.1 LED chipmaker, in a bid to maximize consolidation strength. Epistar`s prime shareholders now are United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. and Wan Hai Lines. Some industry insiders said that Wan Hai could possibly sell its 10% shareholding in Epistar to Hon Hai as long as the acquisition offering is satisfactory.

LED lights are ideal for solar-powered applications

The companies expect to produce thousands of solar-powered LED lighting fixtures under the new agreement.Their first application is for "Cobra Head"-style LED lights that employ Sunovia's proprietary "Aimed Optics"(TM) technology, which controls the direction of light onto a roadway, parking lot or other targeted area. The new LED fixtures use low-voltage DC power generated by solar arrays and batteries from SEPCO. LED lights are ideal for solar-powered applications as LEDs produce light using far less input energy than metal halide or high-pressure sodium sources.

According to Sunovia, its "Aimed Optics" technology tackles optical issues because LEDs by nature are directional - their light points straight out from the LED - making them great for vehicle tail lights, but not so great for lighting that must be spread out over a highway or parking lot. Because LEDs within Sunovia's EvoLucia-brand cobra heads are strategically aimed to precisely focus light for specified locations, they achieve higher light utilization, providing higher "target efficiencies" than even other types of LED fixtures. This is particularly important in street and roadway applications, where requires heightened visibility of more light reaching roadways at ground level.

Sunovia mounts LEDs in an unusual pattern in the Cobra Head fixture, with reflectors like mirrors. It uses 73 watts compared to 81 for an led high bay light bar design, and puts the light in a better pattern. Compared with present vapor lights, widely used outdoors, the savings are a third or more.

driver ICs are capable of matching LED lifetimes

The new fully dimmable GE brand LED module will debut in Journée Lighting’s award-winning Azara? and Pentas? track light luminaires in early 2010. In addition, GE is making the module available as a component for various LED luminaire manufacturers.

LED lighting has the potential to be ten times more efficient than incandescents, with manufacturers reporting lifetime figures exceeding 50,000 hours." said Jacques le Berre, director of marketing and business development for lighting solutions, NXP Semiconductors. "Through our ongoing lifetime test, which has now surpassed 7,000 hours, we’ve set a new benchmark and proven that NXP’s mains LED controller and driver ICs are up to the challenge of supporting extreme long-life lamps."

NXP has been conducting the industry’s longest-running test of LED driver ICs, running continuously since December 2008, with zero failures. As of today, the test has reached 7,000 hours and continues to run, demonstrating that NXP mains LED controller and driver ICs are capable of matching LED lifetimes.

LED's warrants for a long life while an external power supply is not necessary

Designed to set a new standard in green construction for the Alfred University campus, Ann's House was designed to be certified at the Silver level or above by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. In addition to the energy-efficient LED and fluorescent fixtures that light the 48 student bedrooms, hallways, lounges and stair towers, Ann's House also features led high bay light televisions, high efficiency boilers and instant hot water heaters, natural stone and cement composite siding and low VOC (volatile organic compound) materials used for flooring, paints and building materials. The building is equipped with solar panels to provide approximately 8% of the electrical demand during daylight hours.

"LED lighting can be an effective way to help commercial buildings like Ann's House gain valuable LED points," said Deb Lovig,YAHAM LED programs manager. "Joining YAHAM's LED University program makes Alfred University a model for other schools looking to deploy LED lighting."

The unit uses high brightness white LED's and fibre optics, lighting not just the key legends, but also the key edges, the trackball contour and even possible customer logo's or trademarks. Using low power LED's warrants for a long life while an external power supply is not necessary; the power from the keyboard port being sufficient.  The illumination intensity is easily controlable by two dedicated UP and DOWN keys.  This illumination setting is stored at power off.  Furtheron it features an intelligent luminosity setting of the “numlock” and “capslock” LEDS depending on ambient light and key brightness setting. The keyboard uses short travel switches with low pressure and positive tactile feedback.

LED drivers can be used for keypad backlighting

Both quick serve and fast casual units are considered energy hogs, in large part because their hours of operation can average 18 to 20 hours a day,” says Rick Farrell, president of EcoTek Lighting. New Federal regulations under consideration could raise energy costs by 62% by the end of 2010. LED illumination saves 80% of electricity compared to incandescent, and 55 to 75% compared to fluorescent lighting. Not only does it show off the proper colors of the graphics, but it helps reduce ambient air temperature to save on air-conditioning costs. The illumination life span of our high quality LEDs is more than eight years in Quick Serve Restaurant led high bay light and fast casual restaurant environments. In addition, a single Modular Power Supply will power multiple menu boards. Our Modular Power Supplies can be placed outside the air-conditioned area and allow our LED arrays to be thin, lightweight and easy to install.

LED drivers can be used for keypad backlighting, LED indicators, or port expansion in remote areas of the application. Additionally, the integrated ±8kV IEC Contact Discharge and ±15kV IEC Air-Gap Discharge ESD protection saves space and avoids the cost of external protection components. Providing a complete solution for keyboard control and backlighting, the MAX7360 is ideal for smartphones, cell phones, pocket PCs, and other portable consumer-electronics applications.

The Aurora MR16 and Apollo BR30 products were both given the “Award” accolade at this year’s event, with Aeon Lighting Technology being the only manufacturer from outside Europe to receive an award. Sixty products in total were submitted which were cut down to twenty awards overall.

The led high bay light resembles a common shoebox parking

We wanted the students to have free range of expression and provided LED units which can be arranged in a multitude of ways enabling the students to send their unique, illuminated message to the international space station,” said Tom Shottes, President and CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors, Inc.. “We are just thrilled to be part of this inspiring event and to support the engineers of the future in reaching their goals, however far reaching they may be.”

an innovator in providing high-performance, eco-friendly and cost-effective solar solutions for commercial, government, institutional and residential communities, announced they are now offering a unique solar outdoor lighting product developed and manufactured through Inovus Solar.

The led high bay light resembles a common shoebox parking and area light fixture and pole but is powered 100% by renewable energy instead of electricity. However, instead of using solar panels and a visible battery box, the pole is wrapped in solar cells and the batteries and "brains" of the SmartPole are completely housed within the base of the pole.

The Solar LED SmartPole is made in the U.S., and operates completely independent of the electric grid. The system consists of a high-performance brilliant white LED light with a 16 year life that is provided in any standard IES light pattern; a 25 ft' pole internally houses the batteries and electronics within the base of the pole, and is wrapped with solar cells covered with a Teflon-like coating. The system offers dimming with the ability to start out at 100% light intensity, then dim at a designated time with motion detectors to bring the light back to 100% when anyone is nearby. The SmartPole has been tested in some of the most extreme environments and offers the best-in-class autonomy.

LED street lighting is the future technology

Many LEDs available on the market will not work after you have dimmed them, but GlacialPower ensures that the LED will continue to function, even after you have dimmed the lights. The added benefit of extreme safety measures including a thorough burn-in test and also a 5 year warrantee ensures a quality product from the GlacialTech Company. The Power Correction Factor (PCF) of the power driver is also led high bay light specialized and maintains a clean and pure voltage/current ratio to prevent disruption to the power which in turn prevents the LED from deteriorating over time. This added feature enhances the life of your LED’s and ensures lower power consumption.

Germany is initiating a trend in Europe – with the first highway service area equipped with brilliant modern LED lighting at the A24 in Walsleben, the Federal Ministry of Traffic is setting international standards. LED street lighting is the future technology - as they are remarkably lighter, more energy-efficient and have longer lifetime. Security is enhanced as dark areas and long shadows belong to the past. The pilot project in Walsleben East will demonstrate the superior performance of LED technology.

In this future oriented market with high growth potential, the Ministry is betting on a luminous source from Germany that is technically advanced. The lamps installed in Walsleben service area have been developed in Germany, the modules (Lightengine by Lumenova) are manufactured in Esslingen, Germany, and the completed lamps are supplied by 2KMoxa Lighting in Thuringia.

the visible lighting turns off and the infrared light continues

Installation is incredibly flexible due to the M-Vision Cine LED’s compact and lightweight chassis design, and extraordinary lens shift range of 30% horizontal and 120% vertical. Multiple lens options provide further flexibility, with a throw ratio ranging from 1.25 to 3.0:1. There is also a fixed lens which offers a .73:1 throw ratio. Connectivity includes two HDMI inputs, as well as RGB via D-15, component, composite and S-Video inputs.

Producing 4,320 lumens, this LED light emitter consists of 4 rows of 3 watt LEDs, each encapsulated in its own parabolic reflector. Two rows of the LED light produce visible light and the other two rows of LEDs produce infrared light. The LEDLB-24-VIR can be configured with 850nm infrared LEDs or 940nm infrared LEDs, depending on the night vision optics available. Individual power leads extend from the rear of the IP67 water and dust tight led high bay light fixture which can be connected to any voltage ranging from 9 volts to 32 volts DC. By doing so, the Magnalight LEDLB-24-VIR can be wired within the MRAP or MATV military vehicles to produce both visible and infrared lights. When the blackout system is activated, the visible lighting turns off and the infrared light continues.

Larson Electronics Magnalight offers a wide range of visible and LED lighting for vehicle mount and low voltage applications. Known for its HML-5M spotlight found in the Escalation of Force Kit and now the Vehicle Checkpoint Kit provided to deployed US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Magnalight range of Buy American compliant LED lights, including the LEDLB-24 series and the LED10W-6R have found consistent application on military vehicles around the world.

For our flashlights, the XLamp XP-G LED was a clear choice because of its high lumen output, unmatched efficacy and compact package size.” This level of performance can potentially reduce the required number of LEDs, as well as the size and cost of LED fixtures. High efficacy at lower current (up to 132 lm/W typical at 350 mA) can lower the total power requirement for a portable or solar lighting application, which can reduce the amount of solar cells or batteries needed.

LEDs are mainly used for commercial applications

Lemnis Lighting on Friday announced that its Pharox60 LED light is now available in the U.S. online and soon will be for sale on Amazon. Pharox60, the world's first dimmable LED bulb compatible with home light fixtures, is shaped like a traditional incandescent bulb, consumes 6 watts of power and can replace a 60-watt bulb.

The LED bulbs are estimated to last 25 years, significantly longer than compact fluorescent bulbs, which use more electricity for similar level of lighting output, or lumens. The Pharox60 bulb can be recycled with metal and glass materials, according to the company.

LED backers have long advocated solid-state lighting because it consumes one-tenth the power of incandescent bulbs and lasts longer. But the high price tag has meant that LEDs are mainly used for commercial applications.

Because there is concern that manufacturers will overstate the led high bay light efficiency benefits or light output, the Department of Energy has set up a "Lighting Facts" Web site and label to guide consumers. Lighting Facts lists the Pharox bulb bulb among those that perform as claimed.

the advancement of our core LED materials and process technologies

Bridgelux is focused on enabling mass adoption of LED-based solid-state lighting by reducing the cost of light for the general lighting market," stated Mark Swoboda, Bridgelux Chief Executive Officer. "Bridgelux is committed to the advancement of our core LED materials and process technologies. We expect Veeco to be a strategic partner for our manufacturing expansion."

Toshiba Lighting & Technology improved luminous efficiency by dispersing more than a hundred LED chips in a large package to prevent heat from concentrating. For its previous products, the company used Nichia Corp's general-purpose LED package. But, this time, Toshiba Lighting & Technology developed its own LED package, aiming at a total flux 1.5 times higher than that of the company's former product that is equivalent to a 40W incandescent lamp in terms of total flux. However, as the brightness increases, so does the total amount of heat. Therefore, the company elongated the chassis by 10mm to 119mm to expand the radiating area.

The integrated Blu-ray player features BD-LIVE to access additional content via an internet connection and a USB terminal for added local storage. High definition audio is achieved with spectacular sound reproduction thanks to 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD high resolution audio output.

In addition, the new LED backlit LCD TV delivers an energy efficient, eco-friendly performance with an impressive reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional LCD TVs. The LED backlight technology delivers a low power consumption of 139W, producing less heat generation and boasting a backlight life of 100,000 hours and a six-star energy rating.

the cost of energy efficiency measures is usually greatly overestimated

More than half of the world’s population now live in cities and they are responsible for 70% of global energy consumption. Up to 50% of a municipality’s energy spending goes to lighting. Making buildings alone energy efficient could save more carbon dioxide than the entire emissions of the transport sector. At the same time, the cost of energy efficiency measures is usually greatly overestimated.

Philips argues that the current rate of renovation of existing infrastructure, based on inefficient 1960s technology or even older, is much too slow. For office lighting for instance, it is only about 6-7% per year. In city lighting, it’s just 3%. At this pace, it will take 30 years before the environmental, economical and quality of life benefits of latest technologies can be reaped.

The partnership between Philips and the World Green Building Council is intended to set up some 100 local taskforces in the coming years, joining forces with other partners such as governments and civil society to aggressively reduce the world’s carbon emissions over the next ten years that are a direct result of buildings and infrastructure.

eliminating the need to buy expensive replacements

With a power input of only 19 watts per dipped beam, the one-litre car’s lighting is far more energy efficient today than conventional headlight solutions, in which mostly halogen lamps with 55 watts are used. Even Xenon lamps at only 35 watts of input use 20% more energy on dipped lights (95% of nighttime driving) than two Joule JFL2 LED modules. The DOE accepts YAHAM’s IES LM-80 test data for the Cree XLamp XR-E, XP-E and MC-E LEDs. This LM-80 test data can be submitted by luminaire manufacturers (along with the appropriate LM-79 optical and electrical data) to the DOE for ENERGY STAR approval of both 25,000-hour residential and 35,000-hour commercial lighting products.YAHAM has the broadest family of lighting-class LEDs accepted by the DOE for use in ENERGY STAR products,” said Paul Thieken, Cree director of marketing, LED components. “Our customers can avoid expensive and prolonged fixture testing by designing-in XLamp XR-E, XP-E or MC-E LEDs. Cree XLamp LEDs were also the first to be binned to ANSI C78.377A chromaticity back in 2007 and feature excellent white-point stability—further simplifying the design of LED fixtures to meet ENERGY STAR requirements.

YAHAM recently launched the HS200, a stylish and lightweight portable projector, tipping the scales at only 800g. The projector’s small size (measuring 122mm x 183mm x 60mm (WxLxD)) lends itself to being fully portable for use in both the home and the office. With the inclusion of LED technology, it is ideal for displaying a presentation or recreating a high quality cinema or gaming experience.Images displayed by the HS200 appear crisp and clear as a result of incorporating LED technology with its Twin XD Engine and 2,000:1 contrast ratio. Using an LED bulb, it is more environmentally friendly than a projector with a CCFL bulb, as it doesn’t contain mercury. Similarly, it enables the HS200 to have a lower power consumption compared to a standard projector, making it more cost effective. An LED bulb also has the added advantage of lasting the lifetime of the projector, eliminating the need to buy expensive replacements.

The HS200’s screen can reach up to 120 inches enabling users to recreate a comfortable cinematic experience or play games on the ‘big screen’ with ease. Similarly, presentations are displayed in high quality, whether it’s an important business meeting in a large conference room or a classroom setting. Furthermore, sound produced by in-built Dolby speakers can be adjusted to suit the viewer’s location, making it suitable even for use outdoors.YAHAM has not substituted design for high specifications with the HS200. Its curvaceous form and colouring gives the projector a fresh appearance compared to other models.

Valeo unveils a world first: a new technology that will transform lighting and signaling systems. The 3D-effect technology, used in the front and rear position lamps, adds substantial depth to the perceived image, despite being only 25 mm thick. It is based on the principle of the multiple reflection of light from LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and opens up significant new styling possibilities.Valeo has equipped the D09 concept car with this technology. The delicate appearance of the rear lamp is enhanced by a trompe-l’?il effect, the result of considerable research. The design teams at Citro?n and Valeo worked closely together right from the start of the project, to produce front and rear lamps that maximize this technology. The first stage involved the creation of computer-generated animated images, followed by the fine-tuning of appearance details on a mock-up.

the ultimate in visual impact and performance

Taking place for the second year in 2009, the Jazz:Re:Found festival is fast becoming an Italian answer to that most famous of jazz festivals held in Montreux, Switzerland. This year Lighthouse Technologies became a technical sponsor of the three day event, providing two LED screens and technical expertise throughout.Held in the city of Vercelli, near Milan, Jazz:Re:Found is already becoming one of the most important events in Italy’s musical calendar and so event management company Casanoego went out of its way to build on the first year’s success.Renowned artists such as Lamb, Josè James, Jazzanova, Hot 8 Brass Band, Stephanie McKay and Casino Royale were booked and the technical infrastructure also saw a significant upgrade, with Casanoego choosing Lighthouse screens to provide the ultimate in visual impact and performance.

LED technology was chosen because the light source is durable, versatile and of course, energy efficient.  In fact, LEDs can generate the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs using 85 percent less energy in head, tail and signal lighting applications.  For instance, the 2010 Ford Mustang LED tail lamps use 87 percent less electricity than the incandescent counterparts. That's an annual savings of 10.5 gallons of gasoline and 205 fewer pounds of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.LED technology offers endless design opportunities for car and motorcycle makers today. With OSRAM LED systems, like the MyColor system, the auto manufacturers can develop a differentiated appearance for their vehicles.Drivers Robby Gordon and Matt Crafton joined Menard at the tent to get enlightened on some of the newest innovations from SYLVANIA. described the technology accurately

The commercial relationship involves mutual sourcing and supplying of LED components and products. The details concerning the commercial arrangement and the patent license agreement are confidential. The investment of five million United States dollars is in the form of a convertible note that will convert to preferred shares upon LSG’s planned rights offering. The agreement also provides for mutual releases for all claims relative to the past, including all intellectual property and commercial claims and all the pending cases between the companies will be dismissed.

Two of the complainants asked whether the advertising misleadingly suggested that the televisions used LEDs (Light-emitting Diodes) to create the display image, when in fact they use them as backlights. In its defence, Samsung argued that the type of product in question was now commonly known as an "LED TV". It also submitted evidence to show that the phrase had been used by other companies to describe this kind of television.

However, the ASA ruled that the phrase "LED TV" was not adopted consistently throughout the industry and that the adverts were likely to mislead. It found the adverts in breach of the CAP broadcast and non-broadcast codes, ordered Samsung not to re-use them in their current form and told Samsung to ensure that future adverts "described the technology accurately".The UK ACA is also set to investigate advertising and marketing for 200Hz after receiving complaints that several vendors were not delivering true 200Hz technology.

while LED is a focus area for energy saving

Many of the LEDs used are dimmable and the brightness can be adjusted between 5 and 100 percent, enabling 35 percent energy savings with white LED lighting compared with conventional light sources. In addition, the LEDs can last more than 50,000 hours and are virtually maintenance-free.

The design versatility of LED applications is also highlighted. A 17 square metre wall of light, which consists of a highly elastic, translucent foil only 0.4mm thick, provides variable lighting conditions. The wall is capable of dynamically displaying all the chromaticity coordinates between warm and cold white but also colors and moving color transitions. A remarkable feature of the building lighting is that there are almost no visible lamps and light switches. The wall of light, for example, is controlled via a Traxon touch-wheel.

one of the biggest energy wasters

European consumers are switching to green products as a result of the EU ban on incandescent lamps. According to a market research company, sales of traditional light bulbs fell by up to 35 percent in the first quarter of 2009 in a number of European countries. Increases in purchases of regular light bulbs are a regional phenomenon, particularly in Germany and Austria.

The big trend is energy efficiency. Green products account for 65 percent of our sales nowadays and we aim to raise this figure still further to 80 percent in the coming years", explains Martin Goetzeler, CEO of Osram. The EU ban will come into force in stages by 2016. The first step will see the phase-out, as from September 1st, of the 100 Watt bulb, one of the biggest energy wasters, in addition to frosted-glass light bulbs.

"Our recommendation as from September 1st is therefore to change to energy-saving products. This way the consumer will save up to 250 euros throughout the product life as well as protecting the environment", according to Goetzeler.

A recent study by Osram and Siemens Corporate Technology proves that light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are just as environmentally friendly as energy-saving lamps and have considerably less impact on the environment than traditional light bulbs. According to the study, the latest generation of LED lamps uses more than 98 percent of the total energy used during its service life and only less than two percent during their manufacture.

The external quantum efficiency of the PC amber LED

The phosphor-converted (PC) amber LED demonstrated by Regina Mueller-Mach and her colleagues uses the down-conversion of blue light from an indium-gallium-nitride (InGaN) LED to longer-wavelength light by a phosphor, in a variation of a well-established process for producing cold or warm white light from blue LED light.

Monochromatic light-emitting diodes cover a large part of the visible spectrum with high efficiency. For blue light, nitride diodes achieve external quantum efficiencies in excess of 65%. For red light, phosphor diodes achieve efficiencies of approximately 50%. However, so far no highly efficient monochromatic LEDs have been available for the "yellow gap" at around 560 nm.

Leveraging previous research on warm white light, the researchers succeeded in down-converting blue LED light into monochromatic amber light with a 595 nm wavelength and a color purity of 98.7%. The external quantum efficiency of the PC amber LED is at 30-40%, depending on temperature. Compared to direct amber LEDs, the new PC amber LED is two to five times as bright. It achieves a light output of 70 lumens at a 350 mA current.

HA7305 is ideal for netbook and notebook panels with LED-backlight. Recently, continuous cost drop of white LED has triggered the growing demand of LED backlights for mid- to large-sized panels. According to Topology Research Institute, it is estimated that around 60% of netbooks and notebooks shipped worldwide in 2009 are adopting white LEDs as backlights. Furthermore, white LEDs are expected to replace CCFLs (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps) completely in netbook and notebook applications in the next two years.

the light output of each wavelength on the array for the lifetime of the component

The company’s expertise covers semiconductor technology, packaging, thermal management, optics, electronic design, software and volume manufacturing.Enfis 'smart' LED array technology offers luminarie and fixture manufacturers unsurpassed optical white light output. Their ultra-bright, multi-watt, multi-wavelength 'smart' LEDs are designed so that each wavelength can be individually controlled and monitored. Each Enfis 'smart' LED array has active color temperature and heat-sensing components that control, calibrate and regulate the light output of each wavelength on the array for the lifetime of the component.

This innovative feature allows for direct in-situ monitoring of the LED junction temperature without the need for an external temperature sensor, thereby optimizing LED brightness and reliability throughout the LED's full operating temperature range. Targeted at high-power lighting applications, the LDS9001 and 9003 can independently monitor one and three LEDs, respectively.

The LDS9001 and 9003 provide a new, straightforward way to address thermal reliability constraints in high-power LED lighting applications. Utilizing LED-Sense?, these LED controllers provide real-time monitoring of the LED's junction temperature. Every few seconds, the LED junction temperature is measured in-situ and the current is adjusted on each LED channel using a programmable current versus temperature de-rating profile. This optimizes luminosity while ensuring reliable LED operation. System designers are therefore able to reduce guardbands they typically employ, while safely biasing the LEDs at higher currents over the LED's operating temperature range. As the temperature of the system increases above a pre-set point, the LD9001/9003 intelligently reduces the LED drive current, thereby ensuring that the LEDs operate in a specified safe temperature zone. As a result, at typical operating temperatures, the LEDs can be safely driven at higher currents resulting in greater luminance per LED. This enables the system lighting designer to reduce the number of LEDs by 10 - 20% while achieving the same total luminance. Given the relatively high cost of high-power LEDs, the overall system costs can be significantly reduced.
