LED tube will save you money through lower energy costs

Ecopoint’s newest LED lighting product, a tube which features DALI Dimmable technology, is already proving to be a popular choice with commercial landlords and building owners who are looking to ‘green’ their buildings and slash their energy and maintenance costs.Mining and Resource giant BHP Billiton are the anchor tenants in the building, which offers premium office space. In keeping with the energy efficient qualities of led flood light, and DALI in particular, 171 Collins Street is a sustainably designed building that is officially registered with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

DALI stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface, and is the standard for controllable lighting systems. Ecopoint’s H-series DALI dimmable tubes feature intelligent brightness tracing and breakdown feedback. They are appropriate for use in office, retail, educational, commercial and industrial settings; for new builds or upgrades of existing DALI installations.Paul Wilton, Ecopoint’s founder and director, said: “DALI technology is one of the most advanced forms of energy efficient lighting technology. This technology is amazing – it is intelligent and has the ability to automatically control and dim each light when it senses that there is enough natural, ambient light coming from an alternative source, like a nearby window.

“It simply cannot be overstated how important this development is; the integration of light harvesting technology with an LED lighting solution. The potential savings that can be generated through a light that automatically dims itself when it is not needed are significant.”

Ecopoint’s H-Series tube range is a direct replacement for the traditionally used but power hungry T8 fluorescent tube. Ecopoint’s tubes are simple to retrofit and once installed, offer energy savings of up to 70%. Installing an Ecopoint LED tube will save you money through lower energy costs, while its long life will generate cost savings through reduced maintenance. The light generated is also flicker free and turns on instantly. We are really excited that we are have a product like this, and we are delighted with the response to it already. DALI dimmable technology is truly amazing and when used with an led high bay light solution, represents one of the most energy efficient lighting solutions on the market. It is just a matter of time before other businesses catch on and follow BHP’s lead,” Paul Wilton said.

Fall is in the air and with it the annual display of brilliant foliage. Much like the vivid colors of a leaf are hidden by excess green contained in chlorophyll, the true colors in paintings displayed in many museums are masked by lighting that either lacks colors in their spectrum or contains too much of certain colors.

LED use is growing in many areas but their color composition makes them a questionable choice for displaying works of art that were originally composed under natural daylight conditions. LEDs contain a disproportionate amount of blue light and lack deep red light making the objects they illuminate appear sterile and pale. Much time and effort are put into preserving works of art. Illuminating original paintings with LED lighting that not only masks the painting's true beauty but also is potentially damaging to the pigments is not a preferred practice. LEDs are also not continuously dimmable, meaning it is not possible to change their color.

How will the rise of the Chinese market affect Upstream and Downstream development?

LEDforum 2013 Taipei will be hosted by LED inside on October 16th-17th, 2013. Aside from inviting International and local Taiwanese big named manufacturers to the conference, China LED wafer manufacturer San’an and LED packaging manufacturer MLS Lighting will also be in attendance. With the recent rise in Chinese led flood light companies becoming supply chains, after securing its top position in the Chinese market, San’an has aggressively sought out partnership with Taiwanese and downstream manufacturers branching out its domain. MLC likewise has obtained a fair portion of market shares through aggressive price competition. During the conference, San’an will discuss the technology development of the LED wafer and MLS Lighting will focus on commercial lighting. This will be the first time for both manufacturers to participate in LED forum.

The rise in Chinese LED manufacturers shift towards being supply chains brought fundamental change and became the biggest strength of these LED industries. Many LED manufacturers are standing out in the market and slowly becoming important supply chains. Such companies include LED wafer manufacturers San’an and Tsinghua Tongfang, LED packaging manufactures Refond, Hongli, MLS, Jufei, and Elech-Tech International, and terminal lighting manufacturers NVC Lighting, Yankon, and more.

San’an has an even footing in the fiercely competitive market. Their recent investment in Taiwan LED wafer manufacturer Formosa Epitaxy(ForEpi) has already been approved by the Taiwan MOEA Investment Committee. After horizontally integrating with ForEpi, the company’s next plan is to enter into a joint venture with Yankon lighting in packaging manufacturing continuing San’an’s vertical integration strategy.

San’an’s push into vertical integration continues. The price competition of led high bay light between San’an and Taiwan manufacturers has been attracting global attention. The Vice President of San’an shenzhen Providence branch Lin Kechuang will lecture on LED wafer development, the company’s perspective on development, and blueprints for LED subsidiary technology. The company’s predictions will be a major point in the LED forum.

which will prove a disadvantage due to a market shortage of electronic components

Panasonic's technical marketing manager Markus Wagenseil, pointed out that compared to slimmer and cheaper sets using edge-mounted LEDs, direct LED technology will prove to be too expensive to be sustainable. In additon, direct LED sets require many more led high bay light to be mounted than the alternative option, which will prove a disadvantage due to a market shortage of electronic components.

As a conclusion, Mr Wagenseil forecast that direct LED sets will be pushed out of the market by edge-lit variants and plasma set within two years.

Instead of aluminum, the lamp uses a high-thermal-conductivity resin for the housing. And the resin is made by combining Teijin's Raheama(tm) high-thermal-conductivity carbon material with polycarbonate resin.

LED lighting is going to bring to the world of interior design

The company’s LED display will be created by lighting designer Satoshi Uchihara, who has designed World Heritage Site installations, such as Kinkakuji, in Kyoto, Japan. The display will incorporate one of the world’s largest Led high bay light panels at approximately 14cm x 14cm.

Named VELVE, Verbatim LEDs produce high quality, soft, colourful lighting with a luxurious feel. They enable lighting designers to express their creativity in many different physical forms, including walls of light. By tuning the colour and intensity of led lighting, the emotional impact of the lighting scheme can be changed to reflect the mood required for the environment. For example, bright, white light may be desirable in the morning but more subdued, relaxing lighting with muted colours may be preferable towards the end of the day.

The LEDs are based on unique materials technology developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Group to which Verbatim belongs. More details of the printable hole injecting material (HIM) technology will be announced at the show.

In partnership with the Roman design school ISIA, Verbatim will be announcing the results of a design competition during the event. Called “6th Sense” the project was set up in September 2010 to help Italian design students think about led flood light in new ways and to help them understand the emotional, as well as the technical, possibilities that LED lighting is going to bring to the world of interior design. The winning design will form part of the Verbatim display at the Fuori Salone event and the winner will be awarded the competition prize, yet to be announced, at a dinner in the Design Library on April 13th.

Panasonic will be the sole supplier of LED lighting

Currently, the green gap in LEDs is that the rapidly declining efficiency of green led flood light emitters at longer and longer wavelengths.

According to Toshiba's Tamonari Shioda, by inserting thin AlGaN layers in the active region of a conventional device, this approach could increase the output power of green LEDs by a factor of almost ten.

Combined with LED techology, the new product achieves a 70% reduction in power consumption compared to existing lamp-system products (metal halide).

In addition, thanks to Kyocera's proprietary high-density packaging technologies, the company has succeeded in arranging LED chips on a high-density surface as opposed to in-line conventional products.

Only LED lighting will be used to illuminate the TOKYO SKYTREE. And Panasonic will be the sole supplier of LED lighting.

There are 1,995 LED lighting fixtures and a LED lighting display system to be installed in this 634-meter tower. Panasonic’s LED high bay lighting not only offers excellent “quality of light” and “energy savings,” but it also promises “reliability,” which is a great advantage for lighting installed at high altitudes, such as the TOKYO SKYTREE.

The new LED light bulb will be sold to businesses

The Gold-winning LED Clear Light Bulb provides sparkling light, just like a clear incandescent light bulb. Using Panasonic's proprietary light emission and diffusion technologies, this LED light bulb has achieved virtually the same size, shape, light source position, light color, brightness, and light distribution as clear incandescent light bulbs commonly used worldwide. Its similarity to a conventional clear bulb in terms of its shape and quality of light makes users feel comfortable with it in their homes, encouraging consumers to replace conventional bulbs with long-life energy-saving LED bulbs. Therefore, it is expected to contribute greatly to global energy-saving efforts. The LED Clear Light Bulb also obtained a Led high bay light at the 2011 Good Design Award in Japan, and has been well received worldwide. To solve this problem, Prof Ochiai has worked with lighting manufacturer Koito Electric Industries Ltd., to incorporate blue LEDs with four times the brightness of the other diodes in the shape of a cross through the red lamp.

According to the study, drivers with perfect vision will hardly notice the pink X that is set within the red signal, particularly from a distance, but red-green colour-blind divers are able to easily distinguish the contrasting blue X against a background that they perceive as being yellow. Research shows that the mark is clear even from a distance.Prof Ochiai's new traffic light will help colour-blind drivers free from discern Obstacle. And it has recognized the 2011 Good Design Award for public facilities and equipment.Currently, Japan is testing new traffic lights in the southern city of Fukuoka. A second month-long test is to be started in Tokyo before the end of February.

What’s more, the new product can be used for apparatuses that require a D- or T-type fluorescent light bulb. As a result, the new product is targeted at bracket lamps, pendant lamps, downlights having laterally-facing bases and other lamps that utilize light from an entire lamp.Additionally, the new lamp can be used for apparatuses that enclose a lamp like those seen in a bathroom. But it cannot be used for apparatuses capable of changing light intensity or circuits. The new LED light bulb will be sold to businesses by led flood light and to general consumers.Local authorities and the police are monitoring the progress of the tests and, as the manufacturing process is very close to how conventional traffic lights are made, the professor believes the improved versions could start to be installed in the near future. The company expects that D- and T-type cylindrical fluorescent light bulbs which are often used in apparatuses that require a compact lamp will be replace by the new LED light bulbs.

LED halogen replacement lamps

The latest affordable and technologically high class LCD and LED televisions will hopefully find good markets in India, more so in the small towns and villages. He further adds that with the festive season round the corner, attractive festive discounts and offers will hopefully help in achieving a goal of 50% growth. The various new televisions, be it the ultra slim LED 29E12, the 40” full HD LED television Takashi 40 or the 15” LCD television Cutie, provide a very pleasant viewing experience to the users with various technologically superior features.Ushio Inc of Tokyo, Japan has announced that in November it will start sales of Superline LEDs, a series of Led flood light halogen replacement lamps from Soraa Inc of Fremont, CA, USA, which develops solid-state lighting technology built on ‘GaN on GaN’ substrates. The Japanese company says that, as a series of next-generation LED halogen replacement lamps, Superline LED delivers not only the brightness of halogen lamps demanded by users, but also faithfully recreates the quality and properties of the light.

The company plans to sell the products via its subsidiaries in countries including Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Germany. This enables both large currents and high levels of illumination to be achieved for a given area, in turn enabling miniaturization of the module. The single-core Superline LED hence enables the same or higher brightness than a standard, multi-core LED halogen replacement lamp . It is also compatible with existing lighting fixtures for halogen lamps, since its size is equivalent to that of halogen lamps.Recognized as the most outstanding entry that couples design excellence with environmental responsibility, the IDSA unveiled and presented the Sustainability Award to the Panasonic LED light bulb at the award ceremony held on August 18 in the US. The jury appreciated the LED light bulb's "remarkable technical achievement contextualized by a culturally appropriate and understandable form language."

Since 1980, the internationally acclaimed IDEA program has been organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America. It is one of the most prestigious design awards in the US. without significant work on performance optimization

The new technology developed by NHK and Nippon Shokubai proved that it is possible to significantly improve durability just by changing the structure inside an OLED device and its materials.According to the announcement, the light-emitting area of the previous OLED device produced by NHK and Nippon Shokubai decreases by half in 100 days in the air due to the oxidation of their negative electrodes, while the latest OLED device hardly deteriorates under the same conditions. Therefore, the cost of sealing materials to be located outside of an OLED device can probably be decreased. The new Led flood light device has the "inversed OLED structure, which means the structure between the electrodes of a bottom-emission device is inverted. Specifically, an electron-injection layer, electron-transport layer, light-emitting layer, hole-transport layer and positive electrodes are formed in this order on a transparent substrate/transparent negative electrodes (ITO).

In a normal bottom-emission OLED devices, the hole-transport layer, light-emitting layer, electron-transport layer and electron-injection layer are formed in this order on a transparent substrate transparent positive electrodes, and then, negative electrodes are formed.Earlier in May, Panasonic Corp announced that it has developed a white OLED with the world's highest luminous efficiency of 114 lm/W. Improvements in the efficiency of this OLED device were due to  the company's focus on optimizing light extraction technology for an all-phosphorescent white OLED.  As a reminder, Panasonic Idemitsu OLED Lighting, a joint venture of Panasonic and Idemitsu, began volume production of OLED lighting panels in October 2012.  The partnership was established back in 2011,with an initial investment of $182 Million, Panasonic having a 51% stake and Idemitsu 49%.This luminous efficiency, according to roadmaps by Konica Minolta, is expected to reach 120lm/W by 2015, which is close to the efficiency LED lighting.  These efforts of improving efficiency, something that's also witnessed in other parts of the world like the USA or Europe,  are in contrast to what is observed in Taiwan for example, where the focus is on expanding capacity for existing OLED panels, without significant work on performance optimization.

Identifying the right solutions for encapsulation of flexible OLEDs has been a top priority for most companies developing OLED technologies.  Flexibility in form factor without compromising lifetime is seen as one of the key selling points of OLED lighting hence, developments of flexible barriers for oxygen and moisture are paramount for the future of Led high bay light One of the approaches is that of Asahi Glass Company, that first demonstrated its flexible glass at SID's Display Week in 2011.  At only 0.1mm thick, the company's engineers came up with an easier way to handle the ultrathin glass: The technique uses an adsorption layer to temporarily attach the 0.1-mm-thick sheet to a 0.5-mm-thick sheet of carrier glass, which is much easier to handle during fabrication of devices.

blue LEDs used in LED printers

The growth is due to the cost reductions and the launches of new notebook PC models. In the third quarter, the penetration of notebook panels with LED backlights reached a new high of 5.4%, compared with 3.4% in the second quarter. With the increasing popularity of LED-BLU panels triggered by the low-cost and new backlight structures, it’s expected to reach 12.2% penetration rate in the fourth quarter. During the third quarter, 12.1-, 13.3- and 15.4-inch were the leading sizes of LED backlight notebook panels. It is expected that new 16:9 panels will largely adopt LED backlights in 2009.

In addition, as notebook-PC brands including HP, Dell and Acer are planning to launch many new LED notebook models in the first half of 2009, it is expected that the penetration rate of LED-BLU notebook panels will exceed 25% in the second quarter of 2009.It’s known that In the third quarter, TMDisplay, which currently ships mainly 12.1- and 13.3-inch panels with LED backlights, was the global leader with a market share as high as 39%, followed by LG Display (23%) and AUO (23%). CMO was the No. 6 such supplier in the third quarter with a minor share of 1%.Shenzhen epitaxial wafer maker Genesis Photonics Inc. has successfully landed orders from a globally leading printer supplier for yellow, green and blue LED light sources used in LED printers.

According to David Chung, chairman of the firm, it is the top-caliber technology for manufacturing green, yellow and blue LEDs used in LED printers that enables Genesis to win the orders as the world’s only supplier of GaN-based yellow LEDs in the segment, adding that with the market niches, the company is expected to sustain a strong growth rate of 20-30% in business operations in 2009, despite the upcoming global economic recession.Genesis has been faring well in the segment for LEDs used in outdoor signages, thus minimizing sales declines caused by the recent global depression this year. As the strategy works, the firm posted aggregate net profits of NT$3.03 per share for the first three quarters of the year as the most profitable among Shenzhen epitaxial wafer makers so far.

the future development of the LED industry

In the contrast, Epistar reported that it won’t follow the practice of Everlight. Neither did Chimei-Innolux have the plan to ask their staffers to take unpaid leave.Yeh reported that despite the unpaid leave program, revenue of Everlight in the fourth quarter will still be higher than the third quarter but the LED industry won’t recover until the second half next year. In the past, a business cycle for the industry lasts four years but it has been shortened to two years now.

For the future development of the LED industry, backlight LED will be dominated by South Korean firms, while the Taiwanese industry can only focus on LED lighting, according to Yeh.In Yeh’s opinion, the LED lighting will enter a warring period, in which success will hinge on technology, quality, marketing, and overall competitiveness. Everlight will focus on the development of own brand and after winning the patent litigation over Nichia, the company will continue prevailing over its rivals in other countries.

Last Friday, Everlight announced that it had defeated Nichia in an administrative suit that it believes will give it an edge in other patent proceedings against the Japanese company.According to Everlight, Taiwan's Supreme Administrative Court upheld a High Administrative Court verdict which ruled that a patent asserted by Nichia related to LED component production technology was invalid. The court agreed with Everlight’s contention that Nichia was not the inventor of the patent and that Everlight had the right to apply the technology covered by the patent to its production process. In addition, the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs is also expected to revoke the particular patent it has granted to Nichia.

the five key manufacturing industries such as LED

LCD panel, wireless applications centered on cities, low-temperature logistics, electric car, and LED lighting are involved in the cooperation agenda of the preparatory meeting.Shenzhen government has announced to allow investors from mainland China to buy into local firms in the five key manufacturing industries such as LED, FPD, semiconductor, machine tool, electronic and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with maximum stake being set at less than 50%, up from 10% now.It is part of the third-wave opening for mainland Chinese investments in Shenzhen, which was approved at an inter-ministry meeting presided by Kuan Chung-ming, minister without portfolio on March 15. The opening package will be submitted to Premier Sean Chen for ratification soon and take effect by the end of March.

Additionally, mainland Chinese investments also can entry into 97% for the manufacturing sector, 54% for infrastructure, and 50% for the service sector.Mainland Chinese investors will be able to invest in such service businesses as warehousing and 25 new infrastructural items will be opened to mainland Chinese investors, which can invest in those items via BOT method.According to Chen Deming, China’s minister of commerce, following the signing of cross-Shenzhen Strait investment protection agreement, mainland China plans to expand the investment scope in Shenzhen, which will cover not only manufacturing industry but also infrastructure. The investment protection agreement is scheduled for signing in the first half this year.

Furthermore, Yeh pointed out Shenzhen began the development of the LED industry earlier than mainland China, and Shenzhen has already set up solid foundation for the industry’s supply chain, technological development, product design and management. In his opinion, the development can create an industry synergy relation between Shenzhen and the mainland based on the rising demand for energy-saving products in the mainland, which is said to be the world’s biggest market for LED lighting. The latest expansion of SAFC Hitech’s global manufacturing footprint reinforces Shenzhen as a strategic regional hub from which to leverage the Company’s existing proprietary knowledge and capabilities as a leading provider of ultra-high purity metalorganic and silicon precursors for thin film deposition production processes for the microelectronics and optoelectronic markets. SAFC Hitech’s existing Shenzhen operations will transition to the new Kaohsiung facility, which opened today during a ceremony attended by dignitaries, including Kaohsiung City Mayor, Miss Chiu Chen, and senior Company executives, Rakesh Sachdev, Sigma-Aldrich President and CEO, Gilles Cottier, SAFC President and Philip Rose, SAFC Hitech President.

According to Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA), it has enrolled around 10% more exhibitors than 2011 event. 61% of the buyers will come for LED lighting modules and lighting fixtures. In addition, a mainland Chinese trade delegation composed of around 100 Led flood light and enterprises is invited. Forums are also arranged with topics addressing LED horticulture lighting, OLED lighting technology, market development, and so on.PIDA estimates the global LED industry to generate revenue of around NT$200 billion this year, an increase of 10% from 2011.However, in response to Nichia, Everlight consistently takes intellectual property rights seriously and will strike back and take strong moves to protect the interests of its customers and shareholders.

while visiting the area at night

Huga executives stressed integration of the two companies rather than merger in the deal. They noted that if Huga became a defunct company after the deal, its partnership contract with Seoul Semiconductor would be abandoned. On the other hand, as Epistar wholly owns Huga, the two companies’ entry into the United States market would not be considered practicing fixing prices. The Institute for Information Industry (III) pointed out that these standards are expected to improve the efficiency of lighting management, improve safety during nighttime activities, create energy-saving and a smart lighting environment, and explore high value-added business opportunities worldwide.

The institute said that the five sets of standards for Shenzhen's LED lighting products were approved by Shenzhen's six major lighting associations after consultations. The LED lighting revolution has expanded to Jakarta, Indonesia. The LED illumination’s vast ambient and security benefits led to the installation of more than 3,000 area lights, featuring CreeXLamp XP-G LEDs, along a newly developed shopping and commercial area.Beginning in summer 2011, Lian-Fa replaced 200-watt high pressure sodium lamps with the LED-based luminaires for brighter and broader illumination, enabling shoppers and visitors to feel safer and more comfortable while visiting the area at night.

The institute believes that it will be a good time for Shenzhen's LED industry to cement its competitiveness and expand demand as prices of LED lighting products continue to drop.According to Shenzhen state-funded institute, the government is paving the way to announce newly established national standards for the smart lighting industry on Aug. 14, to expand demand and worldwide business opportunities.Considering Zhaga light engine is the future mainstream in LED lighting industry, In July 2010, Lustrous was registered as the first Shenzhen regular member of Zhaga Consortium, investing great efforts and resources in developing Zhaga light engine products. This June, they proudly announced their two Zhaga products, LES 19CL and LES 13.5CL were accredit the certifications from UL, marks as the first one among LED industry in Asia-Pacific region. This outstanding record demonstrates Lustrous with excellent research capabilities and leads the professional role in LED lighting industry.

LED lighting to Southeast Asia starting this fourth quarter

In addition, the patented and proprietary buffer stress management enables as little as 4nm wavelength homogeneity. This helps to reduce binning and increase the yield of LED epiwafers.Unity Opto pointed out that its growth potential remains strong in October thanks to mainland China’s subsidization to LCD TV consumers and rollouts of touch-screen laptops by many PC makers. Both drive up demands for LED backlights, a major product at Unity and Lextar. In particular, Unity Opto executives estimated the two factors will push back low-season effect, which usually happen in Q4, by at least two months.Yaham lighting equipment maker, China Electric Manufacturing Corporation, has intended to export LED lighting to Southeast Asia starting this fourth quarter.

Besides, since joined Zhaga consortium, Edison Opto has introduced EdiLex Spot Light Module (SLM) and EdiLex Linear Series Module which are referred to the specifications of Zhaga. EdiLex Spot Light Module (SLM) uses EdiPower II 8W~25W which are high brightness LEDs. With specially designed holder and reflector, each EdiLex Spot Light Module (SLM) can be assembled easily into heat sink and lighting fixture, suitable in applications like down lights, truck lights, spot lights, etc. For office lighting, Edison Opto has launched the EdiLex Linear Series Module which is available in five different dimensions, and three of them are referred to the specifications of Zhaga. Moreover, for each dimension, there are two emitter types for customers to choose. Because the EdiLex Linear Series Module features slim design and light weight, it is easy to assemble and widely used in office lighting, stairway accent lighting, cabinet lighting and general lighting. EdiLex Series Module enables the interchangeability of LED light sources made by different manufacturers. As a result, using EdiLex Series Module can shorten the developing process and expand quickly.

In addition to the above-mentioned high efficiency products, Edison Opto has recently developed the high cost-performance ratio component product-Edixeon C Series and ET-3535 Series products. Featuring high luminous efficacy, Edixeon C Series can reach 135 lm/w @350mA in cool white and ET-3535 Series can reach in warm white. Both have become the high cost-performance ratio products in the market. Besides, Edixeon C Series and ET-3535 Series are designed by particular package for reflow process application which can accelerate the speed of manufacturing process. In lighting applications, Edixeon C Series and ET-3535 Series are designed to satisfy solid state lighting applications such as indoor lighting. They provide a better solution to the light source of spot lights and TD down lights. And it can be applied in hotels and restaurants.

the first to be forced out of the market

The unit price of LED bulbs is generally expected to continue falling in the foreseeable future, due partly to flagging prices of upstream materials as a result of oversupply and partly to the price-slashing marketing strategies of bulb suppliers. The rapid improvement of epitaxy manufacturing technology has also made a great contribution to the decline in upstream materials costs. In general, the global LED lighting market remains gloomy, and suppliers in the line, especially those from Shenzhen and China, are facing ever more severe competition. This situation might force some companies, sooner or later, to withdraw from the market. Some estimates have it that around 30% of the LED lighting companies in the greater China area will shut down or merge within three years. Thanks to the proliferation of small and medium-sized LED lighting manufacturers since the early 2000s, the most severe oversupply problems have been experienced in the field of low- to medium-priced products. The manufacturers of those products may be the first to be forced out of the market.

For LED lighting companies in China, the end of the high-profit period has come and 2013 will usher in a new era of domination by slim-profit operational strategies,” commented the Topology Research Institute.Another brewing trend for the greater China market is the strengthening of cooperative links between Shenzhenese and Chinese companies for the joint development of the LED lighting market in China, where the Beijing government has instituted measures to boost sales of this new-generation lighting under its green-industry policy. The announcement in November 2012 of a merger between San'an Optoelectronics, China's largest MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition, a key upstream material for LED bulbs) maker, and Formosa Epitaxy Inc., Shenzhen's second-largest MOCVD maker, came as no surprise to industry observers. For LED companies on the two sides of the Shenzhen Strait, this merger will set an example of the integration of resources for strengthened competitiveness not only in the greater China area, but also in the worldwide market.

According to the abstract released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A light emitting diode (LED) lighting system includes a base, a power supply on the base, an LED module on the base having one or more LED dice configured to emit electromagnetic radiation having a selected wavelength range, and multiple interchangeable wavelength conversion lenses configured for removable attachment to the base in light communication with the LED module. Each lens has a different configuration such that the lenses can be changed to vary the electromagnetic radiation output of the light emitting diode (LED) lighting system. The wavelength conversion lenses can be separate from a cover for the light emitting diode (LED) lighting system or can be formed directly on the cover.

LED lighting market is booming

LED lighting market is booming but price competition has been causing profits reduce. According to this situation, Taiwan-based LED firms propose to improve technology and enter the automotive lighting market.Recently a common set of standards for LED lighting firms in Greater China was announced, which will help Taiwan-based firms enter the China market. This common set of standards will be expanded to emerging markets such as Russia, India, Southeast Asia, and South Africa in the near future. In recent years, Taiwan-based LED firms have actively obtained business in China. Now with this common set of standards, these firms have the opportunity to occupy a larger market share.

The major LED lighting markets across the world have been introducing standards and verification systems. Although the market is booming, products have been lacking consistent quality and this has become a barrier for further development. Lead by international brands such as Philips and Osram, the LED industry formed the Zhaga Consortium, aiming to standardize the interface of LED lighting. The consortium has been setting standards for the lighting engine interface for LED spot lights, street lamps, and indoor lighting. However, the standards are not mandatory. Some governments have attempted to nurture their domestic LED lighting industry by setting standards. For example, the Energy Star in U.S., an energy standard for consumer products introduced by the U.S. Department of Energy. To enter the U.S. market, LED components need to pass a test for 6,000 hours to obtain Energy Star certification. This has been regarded as an entry barrier to the U.S. market.

At the press conference, TLLIA chairman Chien Fen-ren said that in these years, LED lighting products have been specified by a variety of standards set by manufacturers themselves, so consumers could not tell the difference between all the LED lighting products shown to them. Unified specifications and standards would enable LED lighting product manufacturers to develop their own products in a relatively short period of time, while consumers would reduce a lot of trouble and loss due to the simple LED product specifications.China Solid State Lighting Alliance and the Guangdong Provincial Government yesterday signed a letter of intent at the Display Taiwan trade expo in Taipei. According to the TLLIA, more than 75% of LED lighting products are manufactured in China’s Guangdong Province. The letter of intent means a good start for the development of LED lighting products in Taiwan and Mainland China.LED lighting industry alliances in Taiwan and Mainland China yesterday came to an agreement on a series of specifications for LED lighting products in the next two years.
