we are very familiar with the quality of performance

Shown at the Cree booth, #149 at Lightfair 2010 in Las Vegas, the LR24HE is 30 percent more efficient than the best 2-foot-by-2-foot fluorescent troffers and 15 percent more efficient than the led high bay light fluorescent troffers. The LR24HE uses Cree TrueWhite? Technology to deliver 3200 lumens at 3500 K with a 90 CRI. It is designed to last at least 50,000 hours.

“By using the LR24HE, which is the most efficient product for general illumination, lighting designers and architects now have the freedom to reintroduce accent and decorative lighting and still meet energy codes or achieve LEED points,” said Gary Trott, Cree vice president market development, LED Lighting. “Cree continues to leverage TrueWhite Technology to deliver breakthrough new performance levels.

announces it is extending the warranty on its entire family of fixture products to five years. Lengthening the warranty lets customers know that Cree stands behind the long-term performance and reliability of our fixtures.Ty Mitchell, Cree vice president and general manager, LED Lighting said that they have almost 20,000 hours of real-world data on products from their early installations nearly three years ago, and the performance is rock solid.

Professor Peter Parbrook, who has been appointed to lead the GaN growth activity at the Tyndall National Institute using strategic funding from Science Foundation Ireland, comments: “From our existing AIXTRON reactors we are very familiar with the quality of performance and engineering available with their tools. There are many reasons why we opted for a LED high bay lighting reactor for our GaN programme: for instance the flexible reactor configuration which includes gap adjustment. Plus we can work with a range of different substrate sizes to suit our various research projects. Inherently, the tool also has high growth uniformity and we are looking forward to using the ARGUS pyrometric system to give us precision in-situ monitoring and process control.” The growth tool will complement Tyndall’s existing expertise in the theory of GaN photonic materials and fabrication of GaN based devices.

the Farnsworth to allocate more funds for programs and exhibitions

A critical letter about the use of chemical pesticides on its lawns in 2008 led to a series of steps and decisions at Farnsworth Art Museum that culminated with a resolution to become a leader in environmentally sustainable practices. Converting the entire museum from halogen to led high bay light bulbs was a major part of that decision.

The effort will make the Rockland, Maine, institution one of the first—if not the first—art museums in the nation to use LED lighting for all of its galleries. The lights will dramatically reduce the museum’s energy consumption, allowing the Farnsworth to allocate more funds for programs and exhibitions.

For the LED project, the museum has partnered with Efficiency Maine and California-based LEDtronics. The relamping will not only help protect displayed artwork by reducing the potentially harmful effects of standard lighting on works of art, but it will also provide budget relief while promoting a healthier environment by reducing energy use.

The Farnsworth currently has over 480 bulbs in its galleries with an average of 75 watts per bulb. The museum hopes to replace all of its 75-watt halogen bulbs with 15-watt LED and 14-watt CFL bulbs. The resulting savings on electricity is estimated to be $15,800 annually. Additionally, with the reduction of unwanted heat that the LED high bay lighting and CFL bulbs will provide, the project is expected to produce a savings of 127,950 unwanted BTUs per hour, and a savings of 10.6 tons per hour of cooling.

the LEDs never operate outside their safe operating area

It is an honor to be recognized by EDN as having the most innovative dimmable LED driver IC” said Ron Edgerton, President and CEO of iWatt.

The iW3610 addresses the most pressing requirements of the emerging solid state LED lighting market; namely, long life, high efficiency to reduce heat loss and smaller physical size with a low bill-of-material cost. The iW3610 is the industry’s first primary side regulated digital PWM controller for 3W up to 25W dimmable LED luminaires that eliminates the opto-coupler required for isolation. The device achieves 5% led high bay light current regulation over line, load and temperature variations for maintaining constant brightness and flicker free operation. Over 80% efficiency is achieved thanks to valley mode switching and proprietary adaptive digital control algorithm that adjusts the switching frequency relative to line voltage.

Maximum switching frequency of 200 kHz allows the design of small size transformer and use of smaller passive components to fit the LED driver electronics in space constrained Edison base sockets. Intelligent algorithm ensures that the iW3610 automatically detects the presence or absence of a wall dimmer be it a leading edge or a trailing edge dimmer and allows 2% to 100% flicker free dimming range. The device allows automatic reduction of LED current at high temperature to ensure that the LEDs never operate outside their safe operating area.

A 15W dimmable LED linear high bay light can be designed with PCB footprint under 30mm x 75mm and only forty seven components for true dimmable retro-fit lamp replacement. The company has successfully enabled market leading luminaire manufacturers to design, develop and release to production dimmable GU10, A-type bulbs and PAR lamps using iW3610.

the activities necessary for the successful completion of a project

The concept of system integrators makes it easier for end users to use pioneering LED technology for various LED linear high bay light solutions. As the “one face to the customer”, system integrators are the interface between the customer and the application. They focus specifically on customer requirements and bring together the appropriate partners from the optics, thermal management and electronics sectors to achieve the desired results. If requested to do so, they will also coordinate all the activities necessary for the successful completion of a project.

“The network therefore offers a complete solution from a single source for various target groups such as architects, luminaire manufacturers and anyone interested in LED technology”, said Sebastian Lyschick, LLFY Project Manager at YAHAM Opto Semiconductors. “As a link between LED users and specialists from the OTE sectors, the system integrator can coordinate entire projects or various aspects of such projects.”

Specialist system integrators are available for a wide variety of lighting solutions, such as those for architectural applications, for applications in the signage industry and for the design of LED luminaires. In the architectural sector for example, it is lighting planners who take on this role. At present, there are 13 system integrators among around 80 partners currently active throughout the world.

The system integrator concept improves the service and customer satisfaction levels of the LLFY network. The network provides a clear roadmap in the highly fragmented LED market supports potential users of led high bay lights and helps find expert partners for partial and complete project. YAHAM certifies the LLFY partners in accordance with strict quality guidelines.
