the advancement of our core LED materials and process technologies

Bridgelux is focused on enabling mass adoption of LED-based solid-state lighting by reducing the cost of light for the general lighting market," stated Mark Swoboda, Bridgelux Chief Executive Officer. "Bridgelux is committed to the advancement of our core LED materials and process technologies. We expect Veeco to be a strategic partner for our manufacturing expansion."

Toshiba Lighting & Technology improved luminous efficiency by dispersing more than a hundred LED chips in a large package to prevent heat from concentrating. For its previous products, the company used Nichia Corp's general-purpose LED package. But, this time, Toshiba Lighting & Technology developed its own LED package, aiming at a total flux 1.5 times higher than that of the company's former product that is equivalent to a 40W incandescent lamp in terms of total flux. However, as the brightness increases, so does the total amount of heat. Therefore, the company elongated the chassis by 10mm to 119mm to expand the radiating area.

The integrated Blu-ray player features BD-LIVE to access additional content via an internet connection and a USB terminal for added local storage. High definition audio is achieved with spectacular sound reproduction thanks to 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD high resolution audio output.

In addition, the new LED backlit LCD TV delivers an energy efficient, eco-friendly performance with an impressive reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional LCD TVs. the cost of energy efficiency measures is usually greatly overestimated

More than half of the world’s population now live in cities and they are responsible for 70% of global energy consumption. Up to 50% of a municipality’s energy spending goes to lighting. Making buildings alone energy efficient could save more carbon dioxide than the entire emissions of the transport sector. At the same time, the cost of energy efficiency measures is usually greatly overestimated.

Philips argues that the current rate of renovation of existing infrastructure, based on inefficient 1960s technology or even older, is much too slow. For office lighting for instance, it is only about 6-7% per year. In city lighting, it’s just 3%. At this pace, it will take 30 years before the environmental, economical and quality of life benefits of latest technologies can be reaped.

The partnership between Philips and the World Green Building Council is intended to set up some 100 local taskforces in the coming years, joining forces with other partners such as governments and civil society to aggressively reduce the world’s carbon emissions over the next ten years that are a direct result of buildings and infrastructure.

eliminating the need to buy expensive replacements

With a power input of only 19 watts per dipped beam, the one-litre car’s lighting is far more energy efficient today than conventional headlight solutions, in which mostly halogen lamps with 55 watts are used. Even Xenon lamps at only 35 watts of input use 20% more energy on dipped lights (95% of nighttime driving) than two Joule JFL2 LED modules. The DOE accepts YAHAM’s IES LM-80 test data for the Cree XLamp XR-E, XP-E and MC-E LEDs. This LM-80 test data can be submitted by luminaire manufacturers (along with the appropriate LM-79 optical and electrical data) to the DOE for ENERGY STAR approval of both 25,000-hour residential and 35,000-hour commercial lighting products.YAHAM has the broadest family of lighting-class LEDs accepted by the DOE for use in ENERGY STAR products,” said Paul Thieken, Cree director of marketing, LED components. “Our customers can avoid expensive and prolonged fixture testing by designing-in XLamp XR-E, XP-E or MC-E LEDs. Cree XLamp LEDs were also the first to be binned to ANSI C78.377A chromaticity back in 2007 and feature excellent white-point stability—further simplifying the design of LED fixtures to meet ENERGY STAR requirements.

YAHAM recently launched the HS200, a stylish and lightweight portable projector, tipping the scales at only 800g. The projector’s small size (measuring 122mm x 183mm x 60mm (WxLxD)) lends itself to being fully portable for use in both the home and the office. With the inclusion of LED technology, it is ideal for displaying a presentation or recreating a high quality cinema or gaming experience.Images displayed by the HS200 appear crisp and clear as a result of incorporating LED technology with its Twin XD Engine and 2,000:1 contrast ratio. Using an LED bulb, it is more environmentally friendly than a projector with a CCFL bulb, as it doesn’t contain mercury. Similarly, it enables the HS200 to have a lower power consumption compared to a standard projector, making it more cost effective. An LED bulb also has the added advantage of lasting the lifetime of the projector, eliminating the need to buy expensive replacements.

The HS200’s screen can reach up to 120 inches enabling users to recreate a comfortable cinematic experience or play games on the ‘big screen’ with ease. Similarly, presentations are displayed in high quality, whether it’s an important business meeting in a large conference room or a classroom setting. Furthermore, sound produced by in-built Dolby speakers can be adjusted to suit the viewer’s location, making it suitable even for use outdoors.YAHAM has not substituted design for high specifications with the HS200. Its curvaceous form and colouring gives the projector a fresh appearance compared to other models.

The first stage involved the creation of computer-generated animated images

As a design services company for 700V ICs, GrandTek already has an established and well respected expertise which Tower will be building upon, adding the advanced process features from its differentiated 0.18-micron power management platform. The first step in the 700V platform will be a power process consisting of 20+ transistor types covering from 6.5V to 700V operating ranges. This base technology will be achieved with very low layers. Further development will include 5V CMOS, 1.8 CMOS, SOI, and Deep Trench.

Valeo unveils a world first: a new technology that will transform lighting and signaling systems. The 3D-effect technology, used in the front and rear position lamps, adds substantial depth to the perceived image, despite being only 25 mm thick. It is based on the principle of the multiple reflection of light from LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and opens up significant new styling possibilities.Valeo has equipped the D09 concept car with this technology. The delicate appearance of the rear lamp is enhanced by a trompe-l’?il effect, the result of considerable research. The design teams at Citro?n and Valeo worked closely together right from the start of the project, to produce front and rear lamps that maximize this technology. The first stage involved the creation of computer-generated animated images, followed by the fine-tuning of appearance details on a mock-up.

Visible Light Solar Technologies is tackling a huge and urgent problem.  Commercial and industrial lighting accounts for approximately 15% of total US electric consumption and is a significant and growing line item for every business.  Visible Light Solar believes that the solution to this challenge is changing our lighting products, combining low power LED lighting components with renewable power solar technologies that, together, cut the energy consumption of our lighting fixtures by up to 85%.Businesses and communities are starting to embrace the future of lighting. Not only are they focused on conservation, but they are also concerned about how areas are lit and where the light is actually going.  More and more designers are taking into account residential areas, schools, and nature in their designs in attempt to better manage wattage usage and light spread.

the ultimate in visual impact and performance

Taking place for the second year in 2009, the Jazz:Re:Found festival is fast becoming an Italian answer to that most famous of jazz festivals held in Montreux, Switzerland. This year Lighthouse Technologies became a technical sponsor of the three day event, providing two LED screens and technical expertise throughout.Held in the city of Vercelli, near Milan, Jazz:Re:Found is already becoming one of the most important events in Italy’s musical calendar and so event management company Casanoego went out of its way to build on the first year’s success.Renowned artists such as Lamb, Josè James, Jazzanova, Hot 8 Brass Band, Stephanie McKay and Casino Royale were booked and the technical infrastructure also saw a significant upgrade, with Casanoego choosing Lighthouse screens to provide the ultimate in visual impact and performance.

LED technology was chosen because the light source is durable, versatile and of course, energy efficient.  In fact, LEDs can generate the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs using 85 percent less energy in head, tail and signal lighting applications.  For instance, the 2010 Ford Mustang LED tail lamps use 87 percent less electricity than the incandescent counterparts. That's an annual savings of 10.5 gallons of gasoline and 205 fewer pounds of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.LED technology offers endless design opportunities for car and motorcycle makers today. With OSRAM LED systems, like the MyColor system, the auto manufacturers can develop a differentiated appearance for their vehicles.Drivers Robby Gordon and Matt Crafton joined Menard at the tent to get enlightened on some of the newest innovations from SYLVANIA.
