while providing a quality of light

With focus on maximum efficiency and the need for independent growth of multiple incompatible materials in a single system architecture, Veeco is seeing an increase in the ramp of orders of its enabling cluster tool systems. The GEN10 for R&D is the most recent introduction to the robust Veeco cluster tool product line, built upon nine years of cumulative knowledge within various production environments. Orders over the last year position the GEN10 into all major applications for MBE, including those related to III-Vs, oxides and nitrides.

Most direct-view LED-based parking garage luminaires produce extreme glare and create a claustrophobic ‘cave-like’ effect, which can limit visual awareness and make people feel uncomfortable and unsafe. To address these concerns, Philips Wide-Lite’s engineers set out to create a solution to provide uniform lighting not only on the ground but on vertical surfaces as well. By incorporating LUXEON Rebel LEDs from Philips Lumileds to achieve the light output and reliability required, and developing a proprietary Non-Direct View (NDV) optical system, the team was able to engineer VizorLED to operate in a wide variety of ambient environments, reduce energy consumption and operating expenses, while providing a quality of light that delivers a far more visually attractive and inviting environment.

Although designed for the automotive industry, the benefits of robust quality management will be realized by customers in the lighting and consumer electronics industries as well. Particularly in the solid-state lighting environment where LED components are often "fit-for-life" knowing that a supplier is committed and has sound practices with respect to quality is essential.

the expansion of large diameter post crystal growth processing capability

The Company plans to add a new 2nd generation crystal growth facility near its existing facilities in Illinois which will nearly double the current crystal growth capacity and will house larger furnaces providing even greater ability to serve the growing demand for large diameter substrates. Concurrent with the addition of another crystal growth facility, the Company will build a facility in Asia to expand post crystal growth processing operations. This facility will reduce manufacturing costs while enhancing revenue generating capacity through the expansion of large diameter post crystal growth processing capability.

Mr. Parvez continued, "These expansion initiatives are designed to ensure Rubicon maintains its global leadership in high quality, large diameter sapphire substrates and to ensure our pricing remains competitive while maximizing our revenue and margins generated from our existing and new manufacturing facilities."

Both new facilities are expected to open by the end of next year. Equipment will then be installed and additional capacity will begin to come on-line. While additional capacity will begin coming on-line once the facilities are opened, the Company estimates that it will take approximately twelve months from the opening for all machinery and equipment to be installed and operational. The Company expects to spend between $60 and $65 million over the next two years on these two new facilities.

this light applicable to wet area

Measuring 26 inches tall, 22 inches wide and 11 inches deep, the large fixture produces 130,000 lumens of high pressure sodium light, which is effective at penetrating fog, dust and other airborne obstructions. A special hard coating and simple trunnion mount makes this light applicable to wet area and dry areas alike. 70 foot of STOOW cord connects the light and the multi-tap ballast, enabling operators to position the NEMA enclosure for convenience security. By moving the weighty ballast to a separate NEMA enclosure, operators can safely mount the HPS light fixture in areas of vibration, wind, etc. without the concerns associated with a having a 50 pound ballast in the fixture.

“This is a powerful, lightweight alternative to typical high pressure sodium lights,” said Rob Bresnahan with Larson Electronics’ magnalight.com. “The fixture is rated for wet area and saltwater use, and high pressure sodium is ideal for navigating in high fog conditions. With the ballast removed and secure externally, it easier to mount, as vibration, wind, etc aren’t going to be as much of a factor when you are dealing with a lighter weight fixture. Basically, you are looking at a two foot square fixture delivering 130,000 lumens of light. High pressure sodium lights are ideal for cutting through fog, moist air, dust, smoke and other types of airborne particles that will often cause a lot of reflectance from other light sources, including metal halide. The multi-tap ballast can be configured for voltages ranging from 120 volts to 277 volts.

a supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, announced an innovative ultra-thin, high brightness, light guide film (LGF) technology for backlighting mobile applications such as cell phones, handheld games and led high bay light. According to the company, the new light guide technology will help designers reduce the number of LEDs needed to illuminate backlit keypad applications without compromising brightness and light uniformity.

He expects that apart from interior LED light

VisEra Vice President of R & D and Quality Assurance Group, illustrates that the next generation of lighting will face more challenges. First of all is the capability of technical manufacturing process, including rapid production capability and reduction in costs. At the same time, the thermal management should be strengthened, while designs need to meet with different requirements.

Marcus Wong, OSRAM Senior Marketing Manager of Visible LED, Asia Pacific, presents "Automotive LED Lighting Application: Opportunities & Challenges.” He notes that the field of automotive LED is affected by electric vehicles, energy-saving and low CO2 emissions, creating robust growth momentum. He expects that apart from interior LED light, the daytime-running lights and the front headlights of an automobile are the next growth opportunities, particularly when countries in the European Union already have relevant laws and regulations in using daytime-running lights.

Dr. Christian Geng, Vice President Greater China General Manager AIXTRON Taiwan, discusses "Satisfying the LED industry’s requirements on MOCVD equipment." He believes the increasing importance of producing LED chips with high-uniformity, due to increasing demand of LED backlight sources and led high bay light for panels. He notes that the use of 4-inch and 6-inch wafer MOCVD machines will continue to grow. He took the output efficiency of the 4-inch and 6-inch machines as an example, each able to produce 2.7 times and 4.5 times the output of LED chips from a 2-inch machine. The company, together with Semileds, also has successfully created a 6-inch sapphire wafer.

when the LED lighting flourishes in the future

In March 2007, Konica Minolta signed a strategic alliance agreement with General Electric Company of the United States to accelerate the development, aiming to commercialize the led high bay light within the fiscal year 2010. Prior to the alliance, in June 2006, Konica Minolta succeeded in developing a white OLED device with a world record power efficiency of 64 lumens per watt at 1000 candela per square meter, while having practical light emission level of approximately 10,000 hours - a brightness suitable for lighting applications.

Such technologies as material, coating, multi-layer design, and optical design technologies, nurtured through the development of photographic film and optical lens, have been fully adopted in the development of the LED lighting. For the pilot line, Konica Minolta designed and developed its own roll-to-roll coating method to manufacture flexible plastic-base LED lighting. This method will serve as the key to accomplishing cost advantage when the LED lighting flourishes in the future.

with other LED business under the group

There are many commercial and residential situations where small MR16 bulbs are the best option to display artwork or to set the right ambiance. However, the vast majority of MR16 bulbs are very hot halogen bulbs or fragile incandescent bulbs that need to be replaced frequently. Compact fluorescents do not factor into this small bulb market because of their inherent large size. The tiny size of an LED lends itself to small bulb applications like MR16 bulbs, allowing for compact, bright bulbs that consume very little electricity, generate very little heat and last thousands of hours longer than halogen or incandescent bulbs.

Hon Hai is also likely to combine its LED lighting maker Foxsemicon Integrated Technology Inc. with other LED business under the group. Industry executives suggested Hon Hai should team up with Epistar, Taiwan`s No.1 LED chipmaker, in a bid to maximize consolidation strength. Epistar`s prime shareholders now are United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. and Wan Hai Lines. Some industry insiders said that Wan Hai could possibly sell its 10% shareholding in Epistar to Hon Hai as long as the acquisition offering is satisfactory.

LED lights are ideal for solar-powered applications

The companies expect to produce thousands of solar-powered LED lighting fixtures under the new agreement.Their first application is for "Cobra Head"-style LED lights that employ Sunovia's proprietary "Aimed Optics"(TM) technology, which controls the direction of light onto a roadway, parking lot or other targeted area. The new LED fixtures use low-voltage DC power generated by solar arrays and batteries from SEPCO. LED lights are ideal for solar-powered applications as LEDs produce light using far less input energy than metal halide or high-pressure sodium sources.

According to Sunovia, its "Aimed Optics" technology tackles optical issues because LEDs by nature are directional - their light points straight out from the LED - making them great for vehicle tail lights, but not so great for lighting that must be spread out over a highway or parking lot. Because LEDs within Sunovia's EvoLucia-brand cobra heads are strategically aimed to precisely focus light for specified locations, they achieve higher light utilization, providing higher "target efficiencies" than even other types of LED fixtures. This is particularly important in street and roadway applications, where requires heightened visibility of more light reaching roadways at ground level.

Sunovia mounts LEDs in an unusual pattern in the Cobra Head fixture, with reflectors like mirrors. It uses 73 watts compared to 81 for an led high bay light bar design, and puts the light in a better pattern. Compared with present vapor lights, widely used outdoors, the savings are a third or more.

driver ICs are capable of matching LED lifetimes

The new fully dimmable GE brand LED module will debut in Journée Lighting’s award-winning Azara? and Pentas? track light luminaires in early 2010. In addition, GE is making the module available as a component for various LED luminaire manufacturers.

LED lighting has the potential to be ten times more efficient than incandescents, with manufacturers reporting lifetime figures exceeding 50,000 hours." said Jacques le Berre, director of marketing and business development for lighting solutions, NXP Semiconductors. "Through our ongoing lifetime test, which has now surpassed 7,000 hours, we’ve set a new benchmark and proven that NXP’s mains LED controller and driver ICs are up to the challenge of supporting extreme long-life lamps."

NXP has been conducting the industry’s longest-running test of LED driver ICs, running continuously since December 2008, with zero failures. As of today, the test has reached 7,000 hours and continues to run, demonstrating that NXP mains LED controller and driver ICs are capable of matching LED lifetimes.

LED's warrants for a long life while an external power supply is not necessary

Designed to set a new standard in green construction for the Alfred University campus, Ann's House was designed to be certified at the Silver level or above by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. In addition to the energy-efficient LED and fluorescent fixtures that light the 48 student bedrooms, hallways, lounges and stair towers, Ann's House also features led high bay light televisions, high efficiency boilers and instant hot water heaters, natural stone and cement composite siding and low VOC (volatile organic compound) materials used for flooring, paints and building materials. The building is equipped with solar panels to provide approximately 8% of the electrical demand during daylight hours.

"LED lighting can be an effective way to help commercial buildings like Ann's House gain valuable LED points," said Deb Lovig,YAHAM LED programs manager. "Joining YAHAM's LED University program makes Alfred University a model for other schools looking to deploy LED lighting."

The unit uses high brightness white LED's and fibre optics, lighting not just the key legends, but also the key edges, the trackball contour and even possible customer logo's or trademarks. Using low power LED's warrants for a long life while an external power supply is not necessary; the power from the keyboard port being sufficient.  The illumination intensity is easily controlable by two dedicated UP and DOWN keys.  This illumination setting is stored at power off.  Furtheron it features an intelligent luminosity setting of the “numlock” and “capslock” LEDS depending on ambient light and key brightness setting. The keyboard uses short travel switches with low pressure and positive tactile feedback.

LED drivers can be used for keypad backlighting

Both quick serve and fast casual units are considered energy hogs, in large part because their hours of operation can average 18 to 20 hours a day,” says Rick Farrell, president of EcoTek Lighting. New Federal regulations under consideration could raise energy costs by 62% by the end of 2010. LED illumination saves 80% of electricity compared to incandescent, and 55 to 75% compared to fluorescent lighting. Not only does it show off the proper colors of the graphics, but it helps reduce ambient air temperature to save on air-conditioning costs. The illumination life span of our high quality LEDs is more than eight years in Quick Serve Restaurant led high bay light and fast casual restaurant environments. In addition, a single Modular Power Supply will power multiple menu boards. Our Modular Power Supplies can be placed outside the air-conditioned area and allow our LED arrays to be thin, lightweight and easy to install.

LED drivers can be used for keypad backlighting, LED indicators, or port expansion in remote areas of the application. Additionally, the integrated ±8kV IEC Contact Discharge and ±15kV IEC Air-Gap Discharge ESD protection saves space and avoids the cost of external protection components. Providing a complete solution for keyboard control and backlighting, the MAX7360 is ideal for smartphones, cell phones, pocket PCs, and other portable consumer-electronics applications.

The Aurora MR16 and Apollo BR30 products were both given the “Award” accolade at this year’s event, with Aeon Lighting Technology being the only manufacturer from outside Europe to receive an award. Sixty products in total were submitted which were cut down to twenty awards overall.

The led high bay light resembles a common shoebox parking

We wanted the students to have free range of expression and provided LED units which can be arranged in a multitude of ways enabling the students to send their unique, illuminated message to the international space station,” said Tom Shottes, President and CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors, Inc.. “We are just thrilled to be part of this inspiring event and to support the engineers of the future in reaching their goals, however far reaching they may be.”

an innovator in providing high-performance, eco-friendly and cost-effective solar solutions for commercial, government, institutional and residential communities, announced they are now offering a unique solar outdoor lighting product developed and manufactured through Inovus Solar.

The led high bay light resembles a common shoebox parking and area light fixture and pole but is powered 100% by renewable energy instead of electricity. However, instead of using solar panels and a visible battery box, the pole is wrapped in solar cells and the batteries and "brains" of the SmartPole are completely housed within the base of the pole.

The Solar LED SmartPole is made in the U.S., and operates completely independent of the electric grid. The system consists of a high-performance brilliant white LED light with a 16 year life that is provided in any standard IES light pattern; a 25 ft' pole internally houses the batteries and electronics within the base of the pole, and is wrapped with solar cells covered with a Teflon-like coating. The system offers dimming with the ability to start out at 100% light intensity, then dim at a designated time with motion detectors to bring the light back to 100% when anyone is nearby. The SmartPole has been tested in some of the most extreme environments and offers the best-in-class autonomy.

LED street lighting is the future technology

Many LEDs available on the market will not work after you have dimmed them, but GlacialPower ensures that the LED will continue to function, even after you have dimmed the lights. The added benefit of extreme safety measures including a thorough burn-in test and also a 5 year warrantee ensures a quality product from the GlacialTech Company. The Power Correction Factor (PCF) of the power driver is also led high bay light specialized and maintains a clean and pure voltage/current ratio to prevent disruption to the power which in turn prevents the LED from deteriorating over time. This added feature enhances the life of your LED’s and ensures lower power consumption.

Germany is initiating a trend in Europe – with the first highway service area equipped with brilliant modern LED lighting at the A24 in Walsleben, the Federal Ministry of Traffic is setting international standards. LED street lighting is the future technology - as they are remarkably lighter, more energy-efficient and have longer lifetime. Security is enhanced as dark areas and long shadows belong to the past. The pilot project in Walsleben East will demonstrate the superior performance of LED technology.

In this future oriented market with high growth potential, the Ministry is betting on a luminous source from Germany that is technically advanced. The lamps installed in Walsleben service area have been developed in Germany, the modules (Lightengine by Lumenova) are manufactured in Esslingen, Germany, and the completed lamps are supplied by 2KMoxa Lighting in Thuringia.
