the delegation will promote products from Taiwan

Lucas Chiu, president of Speed Tech's unit Speed Tech Energy, is presently leading a delegation to survey the investment environment, in particular in the green energy sector in the Latin American country. And the delegation will promote products from Taiwan.

During the visit, Chiu's delegation has also met with Republic of China Ambassador Jose Maria Liu. In Liu’s opinion, while the Paraguay government hopes more Taiwan companies will invest in the country, the long distance between the diplomatic allies and the language barrier have prevented many local investors from moving ahead.

However, the ambassador said the Speed Tech delegation's visit is expected to help Taiwan companies have a better understanding of the Latin American country, adding he believes Paraguay is full of opportunities in green energy business development.

According to AcBel, two large-sized Chinese LED lighting suppliers have accepted its LED indoor and outdoor lighting products, and they will contract it as a production arm to jointly explore the Chinese market in the near future. Therefore, it will help AcBel to build a considerable outlet for its LED lighting products.

the same coefficient of thermal expansion as sapphire

In the most commonly used process for the production of blue spectrum chips- including white LEDs -gallium nitride-based semiconductor layers (GaN) are grown on sapphire substrate (Al2O3) using epitaxial growth methods like MOCVD. A metallic wafer, intended for the dissipation of heat, is then bonded to the semiconductor layers at high temperatures using various joining technologies. Stresses caused by different coefficients of thermal expansion can lead to cracks in the semiconductor layers. To prevent these defects, the led high bay light metal wafersubstrate ideally possesses the same coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) as sapphire.

Molybdenum is commonly used for suchwafer substrates. This material offers good thermal conductivity and is very heat-resistant. However, molybdenum has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than sapphire (Al2O3). That’s why PLANSEE developed wafer substrates made from the molybdenum-copper composite material R670 especially for sapphire-based and high temperature-bonded LED chips. R670 has a thermal conductivity of 170 W/mK and, with 6.7 ppm/K, the same coefficient of thermal expansion as sapphire (Al2O3).

PLANSEE can supply Mo-Cu wafer substrates with coatings made from nickel-gold, ruthenium, chromium, silver and other interface materials. These coatings protect the wafer substrate against corrosion and optimize its surface properties for the subsequent bonding process.

As one of the world's leading manufacturers of refractory metals and composite materials, PLANSEE supplies metallic wafer substrates for heat dissipationand also numerous other components for the production of LED chips and led linear high bay light packages. These include furnace components and molybdenum and tungsten crucibles for sapphire single crystalgrowth, components for MOCVD/MBE reactors, evaporationboats and coils for metallic mirror or barrierlayers and base platesfor improved thermal managementof high-power LEDs.

the government has to pursue an energy and industry policy to address such weakness

Taiwan government has designated the green-energy industry, notably photovoltaic and LED sectors, as one of the six emerging industries to be led high bay light fostered and will set strategies to develop in line with Taiwan’s economic development.

Taiwan’s LED industry generated revenue totaling NT$184.6 billion (US$6.1 billion) in 2011, and leads the world in output volume. And besides the LED and photovoltaic sectors, Taiwan’s green-energy industry overall generated revenue of NT$410 billion (US$13.6 billion) in 2011. Over the past five years beginning 2007 Taiwan’s photovoltaic industry has tripled its revenue from NT$53.5 billion (US$1.78 billion), with the island’s LED industry having nearly quadrupled its revenue from NT$64 billion (US$2.1 billion) over the past four years starting 2008, said Ma.

Ma pointed out that the island’s foreign trade revenue in 2011 create a new record of US$5,899 billion, mostly replies on foreign sources for 99% of energy supplies. As a result, the government has to pursue an energy and industry policy to address such weakness.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has implemented a green-energy project to further upgrade the island’s photovoltaic and led linear high bay light LED industries, as part of the administration’s

It hosts the annual California Avocado Festival

I like the results very much,” said Matthew Roberts, director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department that installed and maintains the led high bay light. “The LEDtronics lamps fit into the existing light fixtures with only minor modifications and look great. I think the consensus is that the new bulbs produce fewer glares, are easier on the eyes, and have a very appropriate color temperature for our needs.”
The Santa Barbara County city is a coastal community of 13,040, with small-town charm, beautiful beaches and breathtaking mountain views. It hosts the annual California Avocado Festival.

“All of the lights installed so far have worked as promised,” says Roberts. “It’s great to know our streetlight electrical meters are turning more slowly, saving tax dollars. It’s also nice to know the products were assembled in the USA.” The product was designed and engineered at the LED tronics factory in Southern California.

The project started in early 2010, when the city began to study the conversion of pendant street lights in its downtown area to led linear high bay light that are more energy-efficient, cast a more natural warm light and reduce light pollution. They looked for solutions that were cost-effective, more environmentally friendly and also more night-sky friendly.

Carpinteria’s lighting efficiency project is in line with the California Long Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan, which holds the state’s local governments to be leaders in energy efficiency by 2020, both for their own facilities and throughout their communities. The city so far has replaced over 90% of its traditional street lights with LEDs.
