Lighting Science is proud to partner with Applebee's, an American staple," said Keith Scott, Chief Commercial Officer at Lighting Science. "Our lamps improve their restaurants' bottom-line and achieve unrivaled lighting quality to enhance the customer experience. Given the energy, maintenance and architectural benefits, Applebee's will definitely reap the rewards of this innovative technology. The mission of our company is to become a world-leading provider of complex epitaxial structures for long-wave led high bay light such as thermal imaging, concentrator photovoltaic and other custom devices. Veeco is the world’s leading provider of production MBE systems, so we anticipate that the led high bay light will enable us to be extremely competitive in terms of wafer quality, speed to market, and cost effectiveness of our products.”
Jim Northup, Vice President and General Manager of Veeco’s MBE Operations, commented, “We are pleased Brolis has chosen Veeco as their MBE equipment supplier as they open their new state-of-the-art epitaxial manufacturing fab. The GEN200 will support Brolis’ market penetration goals with its production-proven performance and the industry’s lowest cost of ownership. It is targeted at LCD panels using an LED backlight such as of TVs and monitors. The light guide plate was made by using an ink-jet technology to form a concave-convex pattern with an ultraviolet curable resin on the "Sumipex," Sumitomo Chemical's acrylic resin. The diameter of the pattern can be controlled between 30-70μm.
Compared with light guide plates made by using an injection molding or screen printing method, the diameter of the new light guide plate's pattern is smaller, enabling to reduce the thickness of the plate. Moreover, because the plate is made with an ink-jet technology, the concave-convex pattern can be easily changed. The question now is how to reduce manufacturing costs even further, which turns the focus onto led flood light as a decisive manufacturing step. I am convinced that we can only achieve quality and cost efficiency by constantly improving the reactor design and through maximum process control. If we continue to strictly focus on these areas and, at the same time, help our customers to migrate to silicon wafers of up to 8 inches in diameter, we will be able to achieve a considerable further reduction of production costs.
